Ubisoft rolled out the online multiplayer game mode for Watch Dogs: Legion on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. The update comes roughly six months after the release of the open-world title set in a near-future, dystopian London where a surveillance state rules Britons with an iron fist. While the game's basic premise remained untouched by Watch Dogs: Legion Onlinethe addition of multiplayer did change many of the title's major single-player systems.

Watch Dogs: Legion Online is primarily a co-op experience, but it does offer a PvP game mode. Users start from scratch when they load up the multiplayer mode for the first time, which means the recruits and tech points amassed in the game's campaign won't carry over. Watch Dogs: Legion Online will drop gamers into the same map of London they're familiar with, but this time up to three other players can join to assist the vigilante hacker group DeadSec in taking back the city from its obsessive regime.

The game mode is centered around a Season Pass that rewards in-game currency, cosmetics, weapons, and more. These items can all be unlocked for free via game progression by amassing Influence Points, which are also a pivotal part of recruiting Londoners to join DeadSec. Influence Points are gathered by completing missions and are spent on recruiting people to the hacker collective instantly. That means gamers no longer have to chat with and gain the trust of Watch Dogs: Legion's NPCs by completing tasks to recruit them. Certain highly-skilled individuals require many Influence Points to recruit, so players will need to consistently complete missions to build a formidable team in Watch Dogs: Legion Online

Watch Dogs: Legion Online: Co-Op Mission Types

Most of Watch Dogs: Legion Online revolves around three types of co-op missions that vary in difficulty and length. The final type of objective requires a degree of coordination. Ubisoft has included a built-in voice chat function to help users communicate without the need for a third-party application. Voice comms aren't required from the get-go, as many missions can be easily completed with a team of four.

Solo Objectives: These simple tasks are akin to recruiting missions in Watch Dog: Legion's single-player campaign. They can involve hacking a computer, destroying a vehicle, eliminating a target, and so on. These objectives will randomly appear on players' maps and aren't shared between users. They'll reward a small number of Influence Points to get newcomers started.

Co-Op Missions: These group missions are the next step up and can be completed with two to four players. Once they're started, players will be teleported to a guarded outpost and given a handful of objectives to complete, like take out the guards in the area, acquire information from a laptop, and steal a car. These tasks are similar to the various outpost challenges in Watch Dogs: Legion's story mode and reward the whole group Influence Points once completed.

Tactical Ops Missions: Finally, Tactical Ops Missions require three or four players to accomplish and are the most challenging missions in Watch Dogs: Legion Online. They'll involve multiple locations, tough enemies, and actions that must be executed simultaneously to complete the mission's requirements. To make things even more difficult, the entire team needs to start the mission again if one party member is eliminated. For these reasons, voice-chat is recommended for the best experience.

Spider-Bot Arena is Watch Dogs: Legion Online's only PvP mode. It gives players control of a Spiderbot in a free-for-all deathmatch. The objective is to destroy as many enemy Spiderbots and to stay alive for as long as possible. Random loot boxes will spawn in the arena, which reward weapons, power-ups, and defensive items. The player with the most eliminations at the end of a round wins and is given the most Influence Points.

The online game mode for Watch Dogs: Legion does away with many single-player's RPG elements. Still, it provides some interesting co-op heist experiences that allow groups of friends to play the title together.
