The next entry in the Watch Dogs series is on the way, and it's called Watch Dogs Legion - releasing March 6, 2020. The third Watch Dogs game took the limelight as part of Ubisoft's E3 2019 press conference, and the gameplay trailer shows off an interesting mechanic where the player can hop between members of a hacker resistance group.

A third game in the Watch Dogs series has been hinted at for some time. All the way back in April 2018 Ubisoft started hinting that Watch Dogs 3 could be on the cards, before an unfortunate leak via Amazon last week all but confirmed that Watch Dogs Legion was on the way. In response to this, Ubisoft then let loose that Watch Dogs Legion is real, and letting fans of the series know that a full reveal would take place at E3 2019.

True to this promise, Watch Dogs Legion did make an appearance at E3 2019. Ubisoft showcased an initial gameplay trailer for the title, as well as showing off its dystopian future London setting as the Watch Dogs series hops to another location. The game's release date of March 6, 2020 was also confirmed. The trailer in question can be seen right here.

Something that immediately makes Watch Dogs Legion stand out is a mechanic that allows players to hop between resistance members. When one playable character gets killed off, it seems as though players can swap over to other operatives in order to reach their target. Interestingly, it looks as though there's a permadeath mechanic for those DedSec resistance members who fall in the fight against the oppressive forces.

On top of that, new recruits can be found within its London streets, with the player able to identify those who have a penchant for hacking that could be useful for DedSec. These recruits then get an origin mission in order to bring them into the fold. Should this mechanic work in the flesh, then it could mean that players are able to fluidly create their own cell and have a unique experience from other players, whether it's ex-MI5 operatives, cockney punks or geriatrics up for the fight. A cinematic trailer was also released as below.

Of course, it's a long way to go to see how this works in action. Watch Dogs Legion promises full recruitment and voice acting, but exactly how in-depth this goes remains to be seen. However, with the game launching in March of next year, there's ideally going to be more information coming soon.
