Watch Dogs: Legion features a DLC character named Darcy Clarkson, and she's the perfect candidate to be the next Assassin's Creed protagonist. Although she is far from the game's most prominent character, she makes an amazing show of her skills in the time she gets. Darcy proves that she could easily join the ranks of the series' other successful Assassins, with the modern order yet to receive the same focus as its historical incarnations.

Darcy Clarkson is a minor character in Watch Dogs: Legion who will join DedSec when her questline is complete. She is a descendant of past Assassins who came to London alongside her brother to fight against the Templars. After her brother's death, she heads to the hidden Tomb of Assassins to find the artifacts of her ancestors and enact revenge against her brother's killer. Upon succeeding in her mission, she decided to take up the duty of an Assassin in the modern-day and join up with DedSec to fight their mutual enemies. Although past Watch Dogs protagonists Aiden and Wrench return in DLC, Darcy manages to be on their level if not higher.

As a playable character in Watch Dogs: Legion, Darcy shows her talents in stealth and combat with her unique skills and gadgets. With Legion being about as stealth-focused as the Assassin's Creed games, it feels almost like a demonstration of why she could be a perfect AC protagonist. She can take down her enemies at close or long-range and is just as proficient a hacker as every other member of DedSec. Despite her initial reluctance to carry on the tradition of the Assassins, it doesn't take long for her to prove that she is a satisfactory evolution of her ancestors. Although Watch Dogs: Legion has some unsavory NPCs and playable characters to recruit, Darcy is quite firmly heroic, albeit a bit cynical.

Darcy's Skills In Watch Dogs Make Her Perfect For Assassin's Creed

Despite the Assassin's Creed games spanning many time periods, there has yet to be a main plotline set in a modern or futuristic setting. Darcy not only proves that such a plot could work, but she would be the perfect Assassin to play the role. In addition to the classic hidden blade, her arsenal includes a cloaking device, a hidden gun for long-range assassinations, and a drone that can scout areas or explode to kill enemies. Darcy is a cyberpunk Assassin that could add a new twist that the series hasn't seen before, and her unique set of abilities could lead to some fascinating missions. Assassin's Creed could use some new features, and Darcy's assassination tech could provide that.

There is one unfortunate detail that hurts Darcy's chances to appear in an Assassin's Creed title, though. Watch Dogs: Legion live producer Lathiesse Thillainathan said in an interview with IGN that Darcy is not canon to the Assassin's Creed series, and is more of a reference to the fellow Ubisoft franchise. Considering Darcy's potential, this is disappointing to hear. Her character has already been set up in Legion, and she could easily be the next protagonist of the series. Although it's not impossible for the developers to change their minds later, it appears that for now, Watch Dogs: Legion is not Assassin's Creed canon.

Darcy Clarkson is an intriguing Assassin whose skills are obvious and admirable. She could easily carry an Assassin's Creed title as the hero, but that does not seem to be in the plans at the moment. However, Darcy still manages to make a strong impression in Watch Dogs: Legion, and hopefully, that will change Ubisoft's mind in the future.
