Wasteland 3 looks much more real in the eyes of players thanks to the release of some new gameplay footage. E3 2019 saw the post-apocalyptic RPG sequel show off plenty of details during the Xbox press conference, trying to make the frozen wastes of future Colorado as inviting as possible.

Wasteland has its roots all the way back in 1988, before the basis of the original game ended up being turned into the Fallout franchise. However, Wasteland had a resurgence in 2014 when inXile Entertainment released Wasteland 2, a sequel that featured an isometric CRPG style reminiscent of the original Fallout games. The developer was then one of those studios snapped up by Microsoft at the end of 2018, and with confirmed plans to launch Wasteland 3 there were plenty of eyes on what the studio would do next.

Heading into a slightly cooler climate, fans of the work of inXile have now been treated to some new footage of Wasteland 3 in action. During the Xbox presentation at E3, inXile shared a new trailer for Wasteland 3, showing off a little more of a frozen Colorado that can certainly be warmed up by a little firepower here and there. The trailer can be seen below.

Rather than focusing on the grim brutality that post-apocalyptic survival could entail in such a cold environment, instead the new Wasteland 3 trailer emphasises the trademark humor of the series. The fact that inXile has been able to combine those dark comedic elements with what could otherwise be quite a grim experience is part of the reason why Wasteland has become so beloved once again.

That's not to say that there won't be some tough moments, though. The trailer also showed off bits and pieces of combat, from interactions with the wildlife of Colorado through some frantic firefights with more intelligent opponents. All in all, it seems as though Wasteland 3 is shaping up well.

So, when will players be able to check out Wasteland 3 for themselves? At the moment, the release date is still yet to be confirmed, but with a few years since its announcement it hopefully won't be too long before Wasteland 3 is made available. Stay tuned for more details.
