Warning! Spoilers for Darkhold: Wasp #1 by Marvel Comics

The Wasp just got revenge on Hank Pym for Marvel Comics' most controversial story, where the longtime Avenger struck his wife in a moment of frustration. In Darkhold: Wasp #1, the Darkhold shows Janet van Dyne what would have happened if she went down a more twisted path. In the Darkhold reality, The Wasp violently stabs Hank Pym to death after hitting her.

While Hank Pym is one of the original Avengers and has starred in some of Marvel Comics' greatest stories, the character's reputation for readers has long been tarnished after he assaulted his wife. In Avengers #213, Janet van Dyne tried to confront her erratic husband after he was booted from the Avengers for reckless and dangerous behavior. However, Pym struck Janet in the face while telling her to "shut up." While the controversial moment was originally intended to be an accident, it wasn't portrayed as such, as Pym committed domestic abuse against Janet - which has been tied to the character ever since.

In Darkhold: Wasp #1 by Jordie Bellaire, Claire Roe, and VC's Clayton Cowles, Janet van Dyne is taken back in time after reading the Darkhold, as the book shows her a much more twisted path. In the comic, Janet offers support to Pym, as the hero becomes more disrespectful and erratic towards her. However, after the Avengers suspend Pym, van Dyne realizes she can do better. When she visits his lab to check on him, Pym strikes her in the face. After he tries to apologize and claims he's not sure what came over him, van Dyne grabs a shattered piece of glass and violently stabs him to death.

Wasp Gets Revenge on Hank Pym

In the Darkhold vision, van Dyne gets revenge on Pym in the most bloody fashion. She realizes she doesn't need him and that she can't continue to support him unconditionally, forever. The comic ends with Janet sitting in Pym's blood as she understands she doesn't need anyone and "I am free."

While the Darkhold one-shots have shown horrifying alternate lives for the heroes who read the magical book, Janet van Dyne's twisted path is as much about liberation as it is about pure horror. While stabbing Hank Pym to death was something she wouldn't do in her original timeline, in the Darkhold reality, she finally got the chance to get revenge and set herself free from his control. Ultimately, Darkhold: Wasp #1 revisits Marvel's most controversial story in a very emotional and satisfying revenge story, albeit in an uber-violent way.
