The zombie infection has shambled into Call of Duty: Warzones Verdansk downtown area, as the Acropolis Nation Bank has been named as the new location for zombie encounters. Since the arrival of the Vodianoy ghost ship at the beginning of Season 2 in February, zombies have made steady progress across the map as they infect various locations of Verdansk.

The free-to-play battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone by Activision has received great success since its release in March 2020, no doubt aided by the timing of various lockdowns worldwide due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. At the one-year anniversary of the game’s release, popular Call of Duty content creators and websites such as CharlieIntel, received packages from Activision hinting at the arrival of the zombies. New packages were sent for every new infection event, starting with orange prison fatigues, then hospital scrubs, and for the latest invasion event, a piggy bank.

An in-universe “Containment Protocol Alert” was also published on the official Call of Duty blog, along with a tweet on the Raven Software Twitter account, which signaled the start of the event and asked for assistance from Operators to neutralize the infected on sight. The Containment Protocol Alert advises players to "stay frosty and execute the mission."

For those unfamiliar with Warzone’s Verdansk map, that would like to get in on the zombie action, the Acropolis National Bank is located in Downtown Tavorsk’s Financial District, which is in the central-southern part of Verdansk. As the infection continues across the map, leaked in-game audio reveals that the zombie events thus far will be leading up to a final Warzone nuke event, which will see the entire Verdansk map wiped out with a nuclear bomb to stop the zombie infection.

Currently, there is no information as to what will happen to Verdansk after it is hit with a nuke, reports are that it will no longer be playable after the event, instead being replaced with a completely new Warzone map. Of course, before the nukes are sent flying it can be assumed that the zombies will be wreaking more havoc across the area until the infection reaches a point of no return. Players are speculating that the imminent nuking of Verdansk will be when the current season of Warzone ends, which will likely be on April 21. Players fond of Verdansk may have to get as much time in the area as they can, as currently, the prognosis for its survival seems grim.
