Call of Duty: Warzone Season 6 starts in October, bringing with it a few notable changes to the battle royale's map. Seismic charges planted throughout Verdansk by Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War CIA operative Russell Adler have leveled much of the city and exposed hidden, WWII-era bunkers for Warzone players to explore.
Warzone has seen map changes both big and small since release, including the opening of the map's central Stadium and many added points of interest. The biggest change took place during Black Ops - Cold War's Season 3, which whisked players back to 1984 and gave Verdansk a retro makeover. Verdansk remains in its '80s state, but Season 6 gives it some explosive changes.
An Activision blog post recently revealed the roadmap for Season 6's content across Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone. Alongside the final Zombies map, called Forspoken, and a handful of new Multiplayer maps for Black Ops, the post detailed Warzone's new bunkers and fissure-based destruction.
Warzone's Map Now Has WWII Bunkers
The changes to Verdansk start with the discovery of German WWII bunkers located underneath the surface of the Warzone map. Different from the original bunkers of the present-day map, the WWII bunkers make up "an underground system of passageways and armaments rooms" that had been blocked off since the ending of the war. Adler discovered them while hunting for Perseus, drilling down to plant the seismic charges there. The bunkers seem to be a clear hint at the impending changes to Warzone following the release of the WWII-set Call of Duty: Vanguard.
Fissures Have Destroyed Warzone's Stadium & Downtown
Adler's actions have also caused some points of interest around Verdansk to be leveled, as the explosions created a number of fissures that damaged Warzone's Stadium and Downtown. Old Verdansk Stadium has been completely wrecked, causing the cranes above the field to crash onto the soccer pitch and construction area. Because of this destruction, Warzone players should "expect greater maneuverability across all levels of this location, including within the cracks of the earth."
Going southwest of the dilapidated Stadium, Downtown is described as "a chaotic mess," as many of the buildings in the city have fallen into the fissures. The blasts destroyed "a marquee Hotel and several buildings in the vicinity." Players can expect less opportunities of verticality than previously offered but also a number of additional areas available to explore. All of these changes could shake things up enough to keep Call of Duty: Warzone interesting before it shifts to the new Pacific map with Vanguard next month.
