Rebirth Island, the smaller companion map to Call of Duty: Warzone's Verdansk, has received a sudden visual overhaul that went unmentioned in the patch notes for Season Three's mid-season update. Specifically the map's lighting has altered, possibly to reflect the season's '80s theme, but possibly also to improve gameplay.

Rebirth Island was originally added to Warzone in December 2020. However, it has been downplayed by developer Raven Software to the extent that at launch, the only way to reliably find the map was in the Resurgence Trios playlist. It took on somewhat higher prominence at the end of Season Three, when players were forced to "evacuate" to the island after Verdansk's destruction, the latter being replaced with a 1984 makeover. Some gamers have complained that Verdansk's remake is only cosmetically different and doesn't actually encourage new tactics, and it's unknown if more dramatic changes are coming to Verdansk or Rebirth Island anytime soon.

Warzone players will now find Rebirth more brightly lit, making the map look less muddled and increasing the visibility of player silhouettes, as noted by thankful Redditor Information-Ill (thanks, Eurogamer). While the appeal of the more cool-toned palette change is subjective, the map's improved visibility is inarguable, and it's now much easier to spot enemies at a distance. That's particularly crucial long-rang play - though Rebirth's small and dense layout doesn't lend itself as well to sniping as Verdansk, and players can sometimes find themselves blinded by the sun.

Call of Duty Warzone Rebirth Island New Update Overview

Raven is known for applying various haze and filter effects on Verdansk, which can of course impact gameplay and look unnatural to players. These effects were especially pronounced towards the end of Warzone Season Two, when some parts of Verdansk became irradiated no-go zones and were bathed in a green hue. Even in Season Three, the overhauled Versdansk still has a warm, yellow tint that isn't particularly popular with players. The Rebirth Island overhaul proves this would be relatively easy to change, and it seems entirely possible that could be on the cards for Warzone's future.

The mid-season changes made to Call of Duty: WarzoneBlack Ops Cold War, and Mobile are numerous, but they focus most heavily on the '80s Action Heroes event running until June 18. These include Rambo- and Die Hard-themed locations on Verdansk, such as Nakatomi Plaza, and the option to buy limited-time Operator Bundles for John Rambo and John McClane. New weapons coming to Warzone include the AMP63 pistol and a the classic Black Ops Ballistic Knife.
