A Call of Duty: Warzone player was able to melee an enemy to death in midair during the initial drop into Verdansk. The video footage of the aerial encounter highlights the many dangers Warzone players face before their feet even hit the ground.

Since its release back in March 2020, Warzone has maintained a dominant position in the free-to-play battle royale space. Consistent content updates and patches combined with engaging gunplay have kept players regularly coming back for more Warzone action. But even with the recent addition of new weapons, skins, blueprints, and buildings as part of the Warzone Season 3 Reloaded update, the general pattern of play has remained the same - players drop out of a plane, land, scrounge for resources, and try to be the sole survivor in an ever-shrinking circle. While landing location is an important predictor of success in the equation, what happens in the air on the way to a drop point can easily make or break one's chances of victory.

User aowbsx posted a video on Reddit recently that shows a midair exchange wherein the player beats an enemy out of the sky. The video begins with aowbsx parachuting casually toward the coast, until a nearby enemy catches their attention. Aowbsx homes in on the target in the air by matching their speed and lining up a few meters behind them. The player then cuts their parachute and opens fire with their sidearm, peppering the unsuspecting enemy. Aowbsx fails to break the enemy's shield as they rapidly descend. The hostile swerves toward aowbsx and cuts their own parachute in order to reach them. Aowbsx, now hovering with a redeployed parachute, watches as the enemy player redeploys their parachute right in front of them, lining up for a midair exchange of fire.

However, aowbsx was unable to reload from the last volley before they redeployed their parachute. As the enemy begins firing point-blank, aowbsx desperately swings their empty sidearm at the hostile player. The first hit breaks their shields, and the second sends them plummeting to the ground in the downed state. After a brief moment, the enemy player hits the ground, and aowbsx is notified that they successfully eliminated the opponent. The encounter shows that having the right amount of aerial combat skill can be the difference between surviving until the end or losing in the very beginning of a Warzone game.

Some might find it annoying that - in a game centered on the loot and ground-based gunplay - players can be executed in the first twenty seconds of the game before they have a chance to really play. Regardless, that is the reality of the game, and it offers an opportunity for less-skilled players to possibly eliminate potential threats early. In that way, it's a viable strategy. This video should serve as a reminder to all of the Warzone players who are checking out the latest Warzone Season 3 content: keep an eye out when dropping in.
