Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

The rumors and leaks were accurate - Call of Duty: Warzone will crossover with Godzilla vs. Kong in a May 2022 content update titled Operation: Monarch. Cursory details about Warzone's Godzilla vs. Kong crossover first hit the airwaves in late March when industry insider Tom Henderson and other sources claimed to have seen artwork of the two monsters duking it out with soldiers in the popular battle royale. Earlier this week, Activision all but confirmed the rumors by sharing a pair of marketing images that hinted at Godzilla's and King Kong's impending arrival.

This won't mark the first time that movie icons have dropped into the world of Call of Duty: Warzone. Approximately one year ago, Rambo and Die Hard protagonist John McClane joined the battle royale as playable Operators in an 80s-themed content update. Warzone's 80s Action Heroes event notably featured Die Hard's Nakatomi Plaza locale, several Rambo-inspired survival camps, and Legendary Weapon Blueprints for weapons ripped right out of each film franchise. It seems the COD: Warzone development team aimed to take things up a notch with this year's movie crossover, though.

Today, April 21, the official Call of Duty Twitter account unleashed a cinematic trailer that confirms Godzilla vs. Kong will soon hit Warzone. The crossover in question, entitled Operation: Monarch, goes live across all platforms on Wednesday, May 11. Concrete details about what exactly players can expect presently remain unknown. But at least the teaser trailer provides lots of eye candy well worth gawking over. The quick look begins with a warplane flying across a cloudy sky before it's ripped from the air by none other than King Kong. While Kong beats his chest in celebration, something in the water travels toward him at high speeds. When the King of Monsters himself rises from the surf, viewers receive a mere glimpse at what a Godzilla vs. Kong battle in Warzone will entail.

Though specific details regarding the Operation: Monarch content remain scarce for the time being, developer Raven Software will undoubtedly begin sharing more information as May 11 draws near. Until that moment comes, Call of Duty: Warzone players can look forward to the Season 3 update, which will arrive later this month on Wednesday, April 27.

The Godzilla vs. Kong announcement comes on the heels of another exciting update which added Snoop Dogg as a playable Operator in Warzone and Vanguard. Call of Duty's Snoop Dogg content added several themed items and weapons to the mix, including a legendary sniper rifle known as the Bong Ripper and the legendary assault rifle West Coast Bling.
