Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

The blue screen error scare that pops up throughout Call of Duty: Warzone's otherwise fun Haunting event has left players feeling more annoyed than scared. BOCW's and Warzone's Haunting event kicked off earlier this week on October 19, serving as the Halloween-themed content for both shooters.

This limited-time event, which ends next month on November 2, features a whole host of spooky content for users to sink their vampire teeth into. Notably, Scream's Ghostface is the main attraction in terms of new skins, with Frank from Donnie Darko, Disciple, Lumens, and Necro Queen rounding out the latest batch of terrifying Operator Skins. The Haunting also brings with it several unique challenges, rewards, and weapons. Plus, Call of Duty: Warzone players will not want to miss out on the new limited-time mode Ghosts of Verdansk that sees the fallen resurrect as Ghosts. But there's one aspect of the Halloween-inspired fun that players find rather unwelcoming - the blue screen error jump scare.

Upon deploying The Haunting event, developer Raven Software added in an extra bit of flair, a jump scare that randomly triggers while players roam about in-game. The scare itself manifests in the form of a fake blue screen error designed to unsettle unsuspecting users. At the start of each match, a "Scare Warning" appears to alert everyone of the moment's existence. However, there aren't enough warnings in the world to prepare for the fake screen's randomized occurrences or the obnoxiously loud noise that accompanies them. Redditor Yoswerz captured one such instance on video, labeling the fright as less "scary" and more "annoying."

While The Haunting event for Warzone adds in more than its fair share of quality content, the fake screen jump scare appears to be quite the immersion breaker. And for poor Yoswerz in the video above, the fright came at the most inopportune time - just as they were trying to outperform their opponents in a tense shootout.

The Haunting ends in 10 days as of writing, but here's to hoping Raven Software issues a fix that allows players to get even more fun from it. After all, who wants their killstreak interrupted by a game of chance just because it's Halloween?
