Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

According to an industry insider, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will include Warzone 2. The state of Call of Duty is in limbo after Vanguard's tepid launch, but as always, a new entry is slated to release this year. Although not officially confirmed, rumors suggest that this year's title will be Modern Warfare 2. That said, it may not be the only Call of Duty product debuting in some fashion this year.

It was recently reported by Bloomberg that Warzone 2 was in development and would launch sometime in the coming years, but nothing was known about it. Given the sudden success of Warzone, it was speculated that the first game wasn't built with the kind of long-term sustainability that Activision is now looking for. As such, a sequel could remedy a lot of foundational problems with the game and allow for a true live service platform without significant interruption.

According to insider Tom Henderson, Activision will be officially announcing Warzone 2 in the coming days, and it will be included with Modern Warfare 2. It's unclear if it will launch alongside the game or have a staggered launch in early 2023 like the first Warzone did, but it does suggest it's closer than people may have originally expected. Call of Duty 2022's reveal was also teased by developer Infinity Ward recently, so this may also include news about that title.

Given that Activision usually reveals its Call of Duty titles in the summer, the news may focus more on Warzone 2 and its larger ambitions. Modern Warfare 2 could be mentioned and teased, but it seems unlikely a full trailer or significant information will be revealed until much later. After all, Call of Duty: Vanguard has only been out for four months, so it would be jarring for Activision to pivot away from it so quickly.

It seems like things largely went wrong after Warzone had its Black Ops Cold War integration, so it'll be interesting to see if Activision continues trying to tie its current games to the battle royale. Modern Warfare 2 reportedly features drug cartels and a more intimate campaign, making it difficult to see how it could tie into Warzone 2. Perhaps the new iteration of the free-to-play title will just stand on its own and get regular updates on its own terms, but it's something that fans will have to wait to hear more about. As of right now, it sounds like Warzone 2 is imminent.
