The brand-new Al Mazrah map in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is truly massive, and players have discovered that it actually contains beloved multiplayer maps from the original Modern Warfare trilogy. The revamped battle royale shooter just recently launched as a tie-in to Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 reboot, with the two titles sharing progression and post-launch content moving forward. While Warzone 2 will deliver a wholly original first-person shooter experience, the Call of Duty title also pays homage to earlier entries in the franchise. As reported by the ModernWarzone Twitter account (via TheGamer), the Al Mazrah map in Warzone 2 contains a recreation of the multiplayer map Quarry from 2009's Modern Warfare 2. The iconic battleground boasts several levels of elevation, spreading firefights from the top of a mining crane to the depths of the stone quarry itself. Another Twitter post from ModernWarzone reveals that Shipment, a tiny map from the original Modern Warfare, can also be found in Warzone 2. While the close-quarters arena was originally made up of shiping containers on solid ground, its exact layout has been translated onto a boat in Al Mazrah. The presence of classic Modern Warfare maps inside Warzone 2 helps demonstrate the impressive scale of the new battle royale shooter.Related: Warzone 2's New Gulag Mechanic Will Turn Enemies Into Allies

Warzone 2 Lets Players Relive Modern Warfare Showdowns

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Shipment

While the Verdansk map in the original Warzone was very large, Al Mazrah in Warzone 2 is even bigger and contains a greater number of landmarks. The Quarry will no doubt serve as a popular drop point in the battle royale shooter, thanks to its nostalgic value and the number of elevated positions for snipers to enjoy. The nautical recreation of Shipment is also a likely place for players to congregate, though its tiny size makes it less than ideal for the large firefights that will break out in Warzone 2. Brand-new landmarks like the Zaya Observatory and Zarqwa Hydroelectric should also prove popular among players, making Al Mazrah a diverse and engaging venue for large-scale battle royale combat.

Traversing the Al Mazrah map will also be made more intense thanks to the new Warzone 2 triple circle collapse system. Like most battle royale titles, the original Warzone saw Verdansk slowly shrink to force players together for intense confrontations. Warzone 2 will put a slightly different spin on this mechanic, with three individual circles separating players into different parts of Al Mazrah. The three circles will still shrink and will eventually converge, however, leading to a climactic final shootout between surviving players.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be an evolution of the series' first battle royale entry, but it also honors past Modern Warfare titles through the inclusion of classic multiplayer maps. Quarry and Shipment were staples of old Modern Warfare playlists, so seeing them return as part of Al Mazrah is truly nostalgic. By dropping into these iconic locations, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 players can recreate firefights of yesteryear using the battle royale shooter's modernized mechanics.
