The upcoming Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will make several changes to the battle royale formula, with the Gulag receiving particularly dramatic and possibly divisive adjustments. The original Call of Duty: Warzone introduced the Gulag as an engaging way for players to respawn by winning intense one-on-one firefights. Warzone 2 will use the Gulag in essentially the same way, but the new version of the redeploy mechanic promises to look and feel much different.Twitter user and Call of Duty resource CharlieIntel recently broke down the major changes coming to the Gulag in CoD: Warzone 2. While the previous game set Gulag visitors against each other in 1v1 combat, Gulag 2.0 will instead pair up dead players for cooperative 2v2 matches. Each player will wield a pre-determined loadout, and eliminating the opposing Duo will let a team redeploy into the main map of Al Mazrah. However, the Warzone 2 Gulag will also contain a computer-controlled Jailer with a powerful mini-gun waiting at its center. If all four players team up and successfully take down the Jailer they can all redeploy, though this opens the door for betrayals and wasted opportunities.Related: Call Of Duty: Warzone 2 Adding Dramatic New Triple Circle Collapse

The Warzone 2 Gulag Motivates Dynamic Teamwork

The series' first battle royale shooter will remain active and largely unchanged following the launch of Warzone 2, though a popular Warzone Pacific Gulag change was made back in December. The tweak lets players carry the equipment they acquired in the Gulag back into the main Warzone experience, rather than starting from scratch again when they redeploy into Caldera. The small but meaningful change gives recently resurrected players a fighting chance against the rest of the Warzone warriors, who have likely scavenged powerful weaponry by the time they return.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2's 2v2 Gulag sounds like a fun and impactful change, especially with the introduction of the powerful Jailer, and even more new features await when the battle royale shooter launches on November 16. The new Warzone 2 game mode DMZ hopes to spice up gameplay significantly, for example, though early responses to the new mode have been mixed. DMZ is purportedly inspired by extraction shooters like Escape from Tarkov, but fans say that the mode's progression systems and combat are far inferior to other staples of the genre.

The new features coming to the Gulag in Warzone 2 sound extensive, but fans are unlikely to fully embrace these changes ahead of launch. 2v2 combat and the Jailer will add a dynamic element to redeployment, but they also risk overcomplicating a previously straightforward system. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 launches on November 16, so fans will be exploring the redesigned Gulag before too long.
