Warning: SPOILERS for Warrior Nun Season 1.

Ava Silva (Alba Baptista) is the current Halo-Bearer, but the magical artifact's next (and best) owner in Warrior Nun season 2 could be Sister Beatrice (Kristina Tonteri-Young). The supernatural action series created by Simon Barry centers on Ava, a 19-year-old quadriplegic who was dead but is resurrected by the Halo and granted superhuman powers in order to defend the world against demons, including the series' Big Bad, the so-called angel Adriel (William Miller).

As the new Halo-bearer, Ava is supposed to become the Warrior Nun and lead the Order of the Cruciform Sword, a thousand-year-old sect of Catholic Sister Warriors - but this is a destiny Ava actively ran from throughout most of Warrior Nun season 1. Intriguingly, Ava was never supposed to have the Halo at all; it was placed into her corpse to hide it from an attacking enemy. But the Halo unexpectedly brought Ava to life and, naturally, blessed with mobility and a second chance to do the things she never could after a car accident left her crippled at 7 years old, Ava's priority was to simply live. The burden of becoming the Warrior Nun was something she actively rejected. When she finally returned to the Cat's Cradle, Ava chose a new mission for herself and the OCS: She wanted to be the last Halo-Bearer and end the millennia-old cycle of women dying for the Halo.

While some members of the OCS, like Shotgun Mary (Toya Turner), prioritized bringing Ava back and giving her a chance to be their leader, others like Sister Lilith (Lorena Andrea) wanted to take the Halo away from Ava. Lilith, in particular, was a prodigy who came from a family with centuries of ties to the OCS and produced several previous Halo-Bearers. Before she was changed when a Tarask vanished with her, Lilith was next in line to be the next Halo-Bearer after Sister Shannon (Melina Masters) was assassinated and she felt entitled. But, although Lilith is a great warrior, Mary told her flat out that she's not meant to be the Warrior Nun. As Mary told Lilith when they repeatedly battled over Ava in Warrior Nun episode 5, Sister Lilith may be stronger, faster, and a better fighter than Shannon was, but "You're no leader." Mary believes Lilith simply lacked the heart to be Warrior Nun. Indeed, the Halo assesses the true nature of its bearer and it will reject those it finds unworthy, as Mother Superion (Sylvia Del Fanti) was heartbroken to discover. The Halo accepted Ava but it may reject Lilith, as Mary believes.

Sister Beatrice in Warrior Nun

The Halo clearly finds Ava to be worthy but it's highly likely that Sister Beatrice is also fit to bear the Halo. Though she doesn't actively want the Halo's power (which may actually be a positive qualifier), Beatrice is intelligent, calm, tactical, deeply moral, and she's an excellent fighter. Sister Beatrice graduated top of her class from one of the first boarding schools and she possesses myriad abilities while also harboring her own personal pain. It's undeniable that Beatrice stands out among her Sister Warriors and, of course, Cardinal Duretti (Joaquim de Almeida) recognized her virtues. But it's when the Cardinal tried to recruit her that Warrior Nun delivered the biggest hint that Sister Beatrice is the right woman to bear the Halo: Instead of giving the Cardinal the allegiance he was asking for, Beatrice reaffirmed her eternal loyalty is to God.

Warrior Nun seems to follow the Buffy paradigm, at least on the surface, but a closer look reveals that the series seems to have a different hero's journey in mind for Ava besides becoming the true Warrior Nun. (After all, Ava isn't even Catholic.) It could be that Ava is, in fact, a transitional Halo-Bearer who is meant to ultimately pass the magical ring to someone truly worthy to lead the OCS - and it just so happens that Sister Beatrice is the closest friend Ava has in the Order. Ava was already willing to give up the Halo to save lives at the end of Warrior Nun season 1, and this may still be her ultimate trajectory. Meanwhile, Sister Beatrice is the leader the OCS needs and it's a role she's capable of.

As "a miracle of the highest order", Ava's ultimate role in Warrior Nun season 2 might be to help end the corruption within the OCS and set up a new direction for her Sister Warriors so that her final reward is to get to keep living the second life she was granted. But that means Ava would give up the Halo and, of everyone in the OCS, she would be happiest to pass it on to Sister Beatrice, who has already proven herself the most worthy of all to be the Warrior Nun.
