A live-action TV show based on the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game has been announced, which will be based on the Eisenhorn novels.

Warhammer 40,000 is set in a dark science fiction universe where the entire galaxy is at war. The Imperium of Man is an intergalactic empire that is beset at all sides by the corrupting influence of Chaos and numerous alien factions that would see humankind erased from the universe. The only thing that stands between mankind and oblivion are the Space Marines - genetically engineered super soldiers whose skill in combat is matched only by their religious devotion to the Emperor of Mankind.

Warhammer 40,000 isn't the only tabletop game that has been branching into other forms of media, as Dungeons & Dragons has seen a resurgence of interest in recent years, to the point where a reboot of the movie franchise has been announced and is currently in the early stages of developmentVampire: The Masquerade is also receiving several new video game adaptations, including a sequel to the cult classic Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, which is due to be released in 2020.

The task of creating a TV show based on Warhammer 40,000 won't be an easy one. A Google search for "Warhammer 40K Cosplay" will show how detailed even a single Space Marine costume is meant to look, which is to say nothing of the non-human factions in the game. It would be difficult to create a big-budget movie based on Warhammer 40,000due to the sheer scope of the battles that will be expected to take place and the alien landscapes that would need to be recreated. The fact that the series will be based on the Eisenhorn series suggests that they will start with stories on a smaller scale, instead of attempting to show the futuristic battle scenes that the fans might expect from the franchise.
