Digital Extremes' Warframe is heading to PlayStation 5 this week, along with some exclusive enhancements for the new console that will improve gameplay experience. Moreover, the free-to-play action game will incorporate a free bundle of goodies for players to celebrate the transition to the eighth generation of gaming systems.

Canadian developer and publisher Digital Extremes first released Warframe on PC in 2013. The online multiplayer third-person shooter game was gradually ported to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in the years following. Players control members of the Tenno - a race of ancient warriors who awoke from suspended animation in Earth's future to find a war with different factions in the planetary system. Since Warframe's initial release, it has grown to include 18 planets, three open worlds, 30 Quests, and 44 Warframes. The game is now one of Digital Extremes' most successful titles with 60 million players.

Digital Extremes announced this week that Warframe will join the PS5 on Thursday, November 26. The game will take full advantage of the new Sony console's hardware by running at up to 4K resolution and 60 fps. This should drastically improve loading times, allowing players to easily transition from towns to Open Worlds. Additionally, the new Enhanced Renderer will add dynamic lighting to create beautiful scenery, while a texture remaster introduces new detail and enhanced coloring. It's not all just for looks - the new experience will reduce the space that Warframe takes up on hard drives.

PS4 and PS5 players can celebrate Warframe's upgrades by downloading the free PlayStation Plus Booster Pack, which contains a Sedai Obsidian Syandana inspired by the PS5's new DualSense controller. The pack also includes an experience booster, a currency booster, and additional credits and premium credits. Players also don't have to worry about leaving any friends behind, since Warframe is introducing cross-generation play on the PS4 and PS5.

Xbox One players will unfortunately have to stick with playing on previous console generation for now, but Digital Extremes did tease an Xbox Series X version coming soon along with cross-generation play. Warframe is just the latest title to get a major refresh for the new console generation, following closely behind an announcement from Epic Games that it would move to Unreal Engine 5 within the next year to enhance Fortnite for the Xbox Series X. Next-gen enhancements are especially important for these types of online shooter games where there's a lot going on at once and frame rates really make a difference. Warframe should have no trouble continuing its success as long as it keeps up with the technology of ever-evolving gaming consoles.
