Update: BOOM! Comics will have exclusive interlocking variant covers of War for the Planet of the Apes #1 at San Diego Comic-Con. Here's how to get them!
BOOM! Studios will be publishing War for the Planet of the Apes, a comic book series that takes place between 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and this year's War for the Planet of the Apes films - a Matt Reeves and Andy Serkis production we were fortunate enough to visit the set of. And now we have an exclusive look and details on the first issue of the series!
The War for the Planet of the Apes film, one of the most anticipated movies of 2017, debuts this summer and BOOM!'s comic debuts just two days earlier on July 12, 2017, and is a must-read for fans of the franchise since it fills in the gap between the trilogy closer and the previous installment.
The War for the Planet of the Apes comic is written by David F. Walker (Power Man and Iron Fist, Shaft) and illustrated by Jonas Scharf (Warlords of Appalachia). We have an exclusive look at the two covers for the #1 issue, featuring the standard cover by Mikhail Borulko and the subscriber variant with art byJay Shaw.

BOOM! has had the Planet of the Apes comic book license for six years now and before Dawn of the Planet of the Apes debuted in 2014, the publisher similarly launched a Dawn of the Planet of the Apes limited series that was set between Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn, so this follows that path in fleshing out the completing the continuity.
Here's hoping for more movies if War is as great as it looks! What we do know is that this summer's film features "significantly" more apes as technology evolves as much as the Apes civilization the stories are about.
