With WandaVision’s release right around the corner, the MCU fanbase is hyped to see what Phase Four is set to bring. Of course, it’s centered on established storylines and the one involving Scarlet Witch and Vision has its own history that serves as the basis for the TV series.

That being said, the romance of this pair leaves quite a lot to be desired. It’s because more than several things just don’t add up. These have to do with things like inconsistencies with the timeline, the nature of their relationship, and aspects that were given very weak explanations. Read on further to find out more.

Their Strange Connection Due To The Mind Stone

There are still unresolved questions about this pair that need a clear answer. One of them would be why these two had a connection because of the Mind Stone. After all, Scarlet Witch was never created by this Infinity Stone, she was just empowered by it.

And yet, the series has played the point that the Vision and Scarlet Witch were always kindred spirits of sorts. In fact, their initial encounters were packed with a certain tension due to this aspect. If that’s the case, then what exactly was this connection supposed to be and why did it turn romantic?

The Striking Age Difference

Among the many memes that make fun of the series, one is guaranteed to find those at the expense of Scarlet Witch and Vision’s age difference. It doesn’t matter that he’s got the body and mind of an adult, the fact remains that he was only 3-years-old when he died.

Considering the pair were said to be romantic for several months when they were seen in Avengers: Infinity War, Vision was probably only a couple years old when they became official. No matter how one looks at this, it’s hard to understand why Scarlet Witch would want to be in a relationship with such a young being.

The Fact That He's An Android And She's A Human

Scarlet Witch and Vision

Vision’s status as an android was such that he didn’t even qualify under Mjolnir’s “worthy” enchantment and was able to lift Thor’s signature weapon. Seeing as even magic doesn’t consider him a true being, it’s strange how his relationship with Scarlet Witch works.

At the end of the day, she’s not only different in physiology but also has human functions that only a living thing can have. To this end, the coupling of an android and a human being just doesn’t make sense considering the vast differences in who they essentially are.

How Their Attraction Began

It’s always been a problem within the MCU that characters are suddenly thrown into a romantic pairing when their previous interaction hadn’t shown any indicators. The same happened with Scarlet Witch and Vision, who had zero established romantic interest.

They were last seen at odds in Captain America: Civil War, where Vision was even shown wondering where she’d run off to hide. Avengers: Infinity War suddenly showed them as a serious couple despite viewers getting no inclination of Scarlet Witch being attracted to Vision, with the latter also having more of a crush on her rather than hold true love.

They Have Been At Odds More Than Being Together

While their relationship has never been abusive, the foundation has certainly been about the conflict they have. Captain America: Civil War furthered a recurring gag of sorts where Vision and Scarlet Witch had a scene that ended up with the two being at odds.

Scarlet Witch had wanted his body destroyed when Ultron planned to use him, while they were again in different camps with the accords. She was even the one to end his life in Infinity War. All things considered, the history of violence here is hardly something that would encourage a romance.

Their Extreme Codependency

When the topic of the best couples in the MCU is raised, Vision and Scarlet Witch are usually mentioned. However, it doesn’t make sense why they had such an intense dynamic since they weren’t actually a couple for a long time.

Regardless, Vision was shown to be okay with dying as long Scarlet Witch was the one ending him. Likewise, she considered his death at the hands of Thanos as the latter taking everything away from her in life. Not only was this codependency unhealthy, it feels unwarranted due to their relationship being so new.

The Plan To Keep Their Romance A Secret

Avengers Infinity War Vision and Scarlet Witch

It was confirmed in Avengers: Infinity War that the pair weren’t living together or around each other save for planned meet-ups. The point to this wasn’t explained, though, as it doesn’t make sense why Vision didn’t dive completely into their relationship and leave the Avengers.

He could have been with Scarlet Witch during her hiding in Europe with no problems since he was in disguise in human form. There was no need for them to be secretive about their romance when Tony was shown having no issue with Vision turning off his tracker and Scarlet Witch freely roaming the streets of Scotland.

Why They Didn't Try To Understand The Mind Stone The Whole Time

The entire backstory of the Mind Stone is one of the things that led to Avengers: Endgame. Vision and Scarlet Witch shouldn’t really have any reason to complain about the lack of time in removing the Mind Stone from him when they had years to figure it out.

Their connection had been established due to this Infinity Stone, yet the pair never took the time to investigate its nature. It’s hard to believe that the one scene in Avengers: Infinity War where Scarlet Witch checked up on the Mind Stone was the only time this thought struck them.

How She Wasn't Turned Off By His Weird Mannerisms

Had Scarlet Witch and Vision not become an item, the latter would have simply been perceived as something of an inappropriate personality. His mannerisms around her were very odd, with him even walking into her room uninvited through the wall.

Vision also tried to keep Scarlet Witch in the compound against her will, being willing to use force if necessary. Considering these points, it’s a wonder how she ever got attracted to Vision when the indicators were toward a rather uncomfortable interest he had in her.

Vision Keeping His Human Form Around Her

If their relationship was supposed to be based on complete honesty, Vision would never have needed to donning his human visage. If trust wasn’t an issue, then there’s hardly any reason for Vision to take on this form, as was seen in their private moment during Avengers: Infinity War.

The point of the disguise was to blend in with the public, making it useless when it was only the two of them. Scarlet Witch clearly had no issue with his true form as she was never shown thinking less of him. With that in mind, Vision using this visage for her has no meaning.
