One of the biggest questions fans have about Disney+'s Wandavision concerns what kind of world the show's leads are living in, and who exactly was that holding the remote control? Are they a hero, a villain, an alien watcher from the outside? And just what are their intentions for the power couple?

As of now, the identity of the sitcom world's puppetmaster remains a mystery, but those versed in both the movies and comics know there are more than a handful of ways to manipulate reality. The puppetmaster might be someone fans already know, or someone they've been dying to see in the MCU.

Someone From the Sanctum Sanctorum

Doctor Strange 2 natural progression from WandaVision

While it might not be Doctor Strange himself, to say one of the magicians under the good doctor's employ might be watching wouldn't be an impossibility. Given the fact that Scarlet Witch is the only other member of the Avengers with magical powers, who's to say she wouldn't be watched?

It's Doctor Strange's job to keep a watch on magical and interdimensional beings that might threaten the mortal realm. With Wanda using her powers to this extent, it might have warranted a mystic's attention.

Magneto

Magneto using his powers in X-Men The Last Stand

Fans have been aching for the X-Men to join the MCU for the longest time, why wouldn't WandaVision be the perfect opportunity? Especially given the fact that Wanda is the daughter of one of the greatest comic book villains of all time, Magneto. (At least, she is in the comics, in the MCU she originally received her powers thanks to experimentation, not mutation.)

It wouldn't be wrong in assuming that Magneto would keep tabs on his offspring, especially after the death of Quicksilver. Maybe this will introduce him as her real father, and he's been spying on his children since the days of Ultron?

Charles Xavier

James McAvoy Closely Resembling Patrick Stewart

On the other hand, perhaps Wanda and Vision are experiencing something akin to the X-Men's Danger Room. By that logic, it might be the famous Charles Xavier on the other end of the screen, monitoring them during some sort of strange simulation.

They might not be at Xavier's academy, but perhaps whoever is containing them called in the professional. Xavier would be the best way to introduce the X-Men into the MCU, after all.

Arcade

Comic Book Criminals Arcade Marvel Villain

Yet another probable player from the X-Men saga, but one whose aptitude for creating false realities doesn't go unnoticed, is definitely Arcade. The game-obsessed creator of Murderworld is one of the most dangerous psychopaths in the world of Marvel comics. Giving someone a cheesy sitcom reality laden with a deadly secret wouldn't be out of his M.O.

Though it's a stretch to bring him in without the appearance of other X-Men, he's certainly a threat fans would love to see step into the MCU.

A Watcher

Marvel Watcher MCU

If the Skrull are living in disguise on earth, who's to say the watcher holding the remote isn't a literal Watcher? Granted, he might not be one of the large-headed beings seen in Guardians Vol. 2but in this realm anything is possible.

Whoever is tampering with reality, be it Wanda or someone else entirely, the Watchers will definitely notice and sure enough take action. Either way, it will make for a very interesting interaction if the assumption is correct.

Victor Von Doom

Doctor Doom with the infinity Gauntlet featured

Since the fall of Thanos, fans of the MCU have been looking for the next big threat. Who better than the infamous Doctor Doom?

Although the Fantastic Four have an upcoming second reboot attempt, they are not necessary to bring Doom into the universe. After all, he's fought more than the Four in his time. Would it really be so out of character if one of Doom's minions were studying them and reporting back to the man himself?

Loki

Tom Hiddleston jokes WandaVision is a Loki move

This is a long shot, but not impossible. The evidence is certainly there, and it might just be the springboard for Disney+'s mischief-loaded Loki series. He was literally shown watching TV in the teaser, why wouldn't he be the one pulling the strings?

The god of mischief might be turning back to his old ways or simply just screwing with a couple of heroes' reality while he unfolds a bigger scheme, but it certainly seems perfectly in character for Marvel's favorite bad boy. It wouldn't be an unwanted reveal.

Agents of SHIELD

A bit on the nose and less exciting, but it might be that Wanda and Vision are trapped and are trying to be saved by some Agents of SHIELD. Viewers know from the end of Endgame that Nick Fury and his organization are still in business, now with Skrull allies to protect the planet, making them the most logical choice.

If one of their team is trapped in some strange alternate reality, SHIELD will want to act fast to combat any threat to the multiverse. Especially if the victim in question is one of the Avengers.

SWORD Agents

WandaVision Episode 2 - Helicopter SWORD Logo

If there was a pick more obvious than SHIELD, it's SWORD. The logo for the intergalactic version of SHIELD can be seen across the first two episodes, so there's no way they aren't involved somehow.

Their logo is on the controller-holder's file, the toy helicopter, and the back of the beekeeper's suit, but it's unknown what their presence means and what they intend to accomplish. All viewers know is that the world isn't real and someone from the outside is trying to get in.

Some Strange Combination

WandaVision MCU Links

Xavier might be working with SHIELD and SWORD by extension, Loki might be watching while under the view of the Watchers, or some other combination Marvel hasn't let viewers know yet. Whatever it is, it's a good possibility that whoever is watching Wanda and Vision isn't working alone.

That's good news for fans of the MCU because it would mean multiple appearances and teasers for the next phase. All fans can do now is follow the figure's example and simply watch.
