Warning: SPOILERS for WandaVision episode 5!

Sparky didn't last long in WandaVision episode 5, but there was ample evidence suggesting the pet wanted to die. The installment, titled "On a Very Special Episode..." was set in the '80s, following Wanda and Vision raising their twins, Tommy and Billy. Initially portrayed as infants, the boys revealed that they could suddenly age years in a matter of seconds. During their rushed growth, the pair convinced their parents that they were ready to care for a pet. Unfortunately, the dog seemingly had a death wish of sorts, which could connect to Wanda's level of control over Westview.

Tommy and Billy found the dog outside before taking it to the kitchen sink for a bath. The twins begged Wanda to keep the adorable pooch with no collar, but she and Vision claimed the kids were too young to raise a pet. The boys then instantly aged another five years, giving their parents no other excuses. The next step was coming up with a name for the dog. After he got a shock from the kitchen's electrical outlet, Agnes suggested the name "Sparky." The name was a reference to Sparky the android dog in Marvel Comics. When a dog belonging to Vision's neighbors was killed, he extracted its brain to create a super-canine during an odd story arc.

Following the brush with death from an outlet, Sparky ended up escaping from the house when S.W.O.R.D. sent a drone into Westview. While searching for the dog with Wanda, Tommy and Billy learned that Sparky passed away after eating some of an azalea bush in Agnes' yard. Due to the unexpected turn of events, Agnes wrapped up Sparky's body so the boys wouldn't directly see their deceased pet. The twins asked if Wanda could bring Sparky back to life, but instead, she taught her kids a lesson about loss and dealing with grief. Interestingly, Sparky's short stint on WandaVision hinted that the dog was actively searching for a way to kill himself. Being trapped in the Westview hexagon could have been the reason why he had a death wish.

Why Sparky Wanted To Kill Himself In WandaVision

WandaVision Episode 5 - Sparky Doing Tricks

When Vision broke the trance over his co-worker, Norm, the man mentioned the excruciating pain he felt while being controlled by Wanda. If the rest of Westview were under the same type of control, Sparky would have also felt immense pain. It was unclear how much restraint Wanda had over Sparky, but the twins mentioned he was crying outside when they first found the animal. It was assumed that his distress was due to being a stray, but it's possible he was in extreme pain, causing his small brain to overload while being trapped in Westview by Wanda.

To restore order, Sparky may have wanted out of Wanda's grasp. When he failed to electrocute himself, the dog escaped from the house at the first chance he got. Seeing as he couldn't get out of the hexagon, Sparky found an alternative by poisoning himself with the azalea bush. To the dog, death was the only option, indicating how even small living things couldn't face Wanda's reality at the center of WandaVision. If others break out of her control, how far will they go to escape? Considering Sparky's fate, the episode could indicate how far Westview citizens will go to get away from Wanda.
