According to Paul Bettany, WandaVision made Kevin Feige more excited than any other MCU project. As a result of numerous schedule changes, WandaVision will officially be the first project in Marvel's Phase 4. Initially, the series was set to be the second Marvel show to premiere on Disney+, but the delay of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (plus the first two Phase 4 movies) pushed WandaVision up the list. Despite hopes that the quirky sitcom would debut by the end of this year, WandaVision is slated to begin in January 2021, a little less than two months from now.

Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision will follow the titular pair of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Bettany) as they settle into the domesticity of 1950s sitcoms, black and white picture and all. Wanda has seemingly created the perfect life for the two of them, but it's certain this peace won't last forever. With its sitcom style and decade-jumping nature, WandaVision is poised to be the most eccentric MCU project yet. This is unlike anything that has come before in the mega-franchise, but based on Marvel boss Feige's apparent reaction, it sounds like it'll go over well.

While sitting down with Josh Horowitz on Stir Crazy, Bettany touched upon WandaVision's strange nature. The actor acknowledged the risk Marvel is taking on the series, but he only had positive things to say. "I think I can guarantee a few things. I think we took an enormous swing. I think it's gonna pay off," Bettany said. Then, in the best endorsement WandaVision could possibly receive, Bettany added, "I've never seen Kevin Feige more giddy and excited."

With all of the praise WandaVision has been receiving from the cast and crew members, one wonders if it can actually live up to all these expectations. Feige is essentially the king of the MCU, having built it from the ground up at Marvel Studios. That he seems so excited for WandaVision bodes especially well for the show's prospects and shows fans can get excited too. It's hard to say for sure without actually seeing the show, but if WandaVision's quality is anything like its pre-release buzz, Marvel's got another winner on their hands.

One of the most common criticisms leveled at the MCU is its tendency to play it safe and follow the same format. WandaVision feels like it was born out of that critique as it steps out of the bounds of what one might typically expect from an MCU production. Yes, it'll feature familiar characters and plenty of action, but it also is taking on an entirely different genre/format, and therefore playing with different tropes. How Wanda and Vision make sitcoms work within the confines of the MCU remans to be seen, but fans are definitely eager to see it come to life.
