The first full clip from WandaVision has been released, highlighting the show's comedy. Marvel Studios' first Phase 4 venture will be through the small screen following a series of slate delays and rescheduling due to the coronavirus pandemic. Exclusively available on Disney+, WandaVision will reunite Wanda and Vision following the events of the Infinity Saga as they live the seemingly perfect suburban life as a married couple.
Marketing for WandaVision has been measured so as not to reveal any major plot point from the show. Instead, it mostly focuses on the series' parody of classic sitcoms from the past decades. Joining its titular characters is a string of familiar MCU faces such as Kat Dennings' Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris' grown-up Monica Rambeau, and Randall Park's Agent Jimmy Woo. Meanwhile, Katherine Hahn officially joins the MCU through the project as a mysterious character only known as Agnes. As the release for WandaVision nears, Marvel Studios is ramping up their promotional campaign by releasing the first full clip from the show.
Elizabeth Olsen recently made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about her next outing as the Scarlet Witch in the MCU. While she can't talk much about WandaVision's story so as not to inadvertently drop any spoilers, she debuted a snippet from the show which sees Wanda and Vision in their bedroom, getting ready to sleep. Snippets from this scene have been included in previous trailers for WandaVision. Sometime after this humorous back-and-forth between the lovers, Wanda will use her powers to bring their two separate beds together. Based on the reaction noises, it's safe to say that this sequence will be part of the show's premiere which was filmed in front of a live studio audience much like a lot of sitcoms. The fact that this is also still in black and white further backs up that idea. In terms of narrative, the clip reinforces that Wanda is using her mind to manipulate objects — something that has been teased in other official footage but is explicitly confirmed here through Vision's comment. It will be interesting to see Scarlet Witch fully using this capability, albeit in a mundane manner, as it hasn't really been tackled in the MCU thus far. Finally, the mysterious sounds that both of them are hearing could be attempts from SWORD to infiltrate the fantastical world they exist in.
The biggest takeaway from this new WandaVision clip, however, is the kind of humor that can be expected from the show. Wanda and Vision's back-and-forth in this sequence is very much in line with '60s sitcoms like Bewitched which is an appropriate inspiration for the Marvel Studios project. While the MCU is known for its humor, particularly its quick-witted and snappy type, this seems to be different. It will be curious how the show evolves to the typical superhero fare that the franchise is known for.
