WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer is reluctant to confirm or deny the possibility of a season 2. WandaVision premiered earlier this month and currently has three episodes available to stream on Disney+. The show picks up right after Avengers: Endgame and explores the relationship between Wanda and Vision as they shift between classic TV sitcom settings.
WandaVision is the first installment of and introduction to the MCU's Phase 4, which will consist of both small screen shows and theatrical releases. While the show takes place after Avengers: Endgame, Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) are both shown alive and well despite Vision's tragic death in Avengers: Infinity War. The show has a cheery sitcom style to it, but subtle hints of underlying darkness are spread throughout and point to a more complex plot at work.
According to THR, WandaVision's head writer Jac Schaeffer is not interested in confirming or denying a second season for the show. Rather, she emphasizes the importance of focusing on what's happening right now in the MCU. She explains that that's just how things work at Marvel – one thing at a time.
"I cannot talk about second season. That really fits in with the Marvel philosophy. Kevin is so great at coming out and being like, 'Here's what's happening!' to a point. 'Here's the field, and this is where the field drops off.' A second season is not something that can be discussed that's on the field quite yet."
Schaeffer does add that "season one feels like a complete story." Each of the MCU Disney+ shows, including WandaVision, has been created in a way that they feel like their own comic. Although they are all, obviously, going to be connected within the larger MCU world, each one will work independently. Schaeffer explains that they will feel complete:
"It was always the design with these shows that they feel like a run of a comic. In that way, it feels very complete. It's an emotional completion I stand by and feel great about and always was very much baked in."
Although fans are loving WandaVision, it looks like there won't be a need for a second season. If Schaeffer is to be taken for her word, then there won't even be an emotional desire for a second season, as everything will feel tied up and complete. Additionally, WandaVision being the first of the MCU Disney+ shows means that there will be more shows and characters to look forward to. For now, it looks like enjoying the show for what it is and the steps it is creating for the MCU is just what Schaeffer wants viewers to be focusing on.
