Why WandaVision Season 2 Just Became More Likely (Despite Its End)

Recent Marvel Studios deals make WandaVision more likely despite how the Disney+ show ended. As the first Marvel Cinematic Universe series on Disney's streaming service, fans flocked to see Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany play Scarlet Witch and Vision in a sitcom-inspired romp. WandaVision's divisive ending mostly closed the chapter on this particular story while setting up Scarlet Witch's MCU future. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be where fans see Wanda Maximoff next, but there have been hopes that WandaVision season 2 could happen.

Those involved with Marvel Studios and WandaVision have left the door open for the story to continue, but there's now a chance that Marvel is taking steps to ensure this can happen. WandaVision's head writer Jac Schaeffer recently signed an overall deal with Disney that will include her working on more MCU shows. It has yet to be revealed what Marvel projects Schaeffer will tackle as a result of this deal. She's done more in the MCU than just WandaVision, with her co-creating the stories for Black Widow and Captain Marvel. But this new working arrangement with Marvel Studios is specifically for TV, which could be a great sign that WandaVision season 2 will happen at some point.

Marvel Studios has a tendency to keep the same creative team around on projects that do well for consistency's sake. Schaeffer was instrumental in shaping Scarlet Witch's story at the start of Phase 4, and WandaVision was a huge hit. It would be smart for Marvel to keep her involved with wherever Wanda goes after Doctor Strange 2. Schaeffer can take on a similar role as Malcolm Spellman is reportedly taking with Sam Wilson after The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Scarlet Witch's MCU future might not include a solo movie, but Schaeffer can help bring WandaVision season 2 or another Wanda-centric story to Disney+ under this new Marvel deal.

Elements of WandaVision's story will be paid off in Doctor Strange 2, but it is evident that there is room for the story to continue with a second season. Scarlet Witch will have a prominent role in the Doctor Strange sequel, but she'll still ultimately be a supporting character to Benedict Cumberbatch's sorcerer. There is a greater love and appreciation for Wanda Maximoff - and Elizabeth Olsen's acting talent - after WandaVision. She deserves a chance to be the main character again and most would prefer the long-form storytelling Disney+ offers Marvel to make this happen. And again, Schaeffer is now positioned to be involved in shepherding such a project forward.

If WandaVision season 2 does happen in some form, it will likely be very different and even have a different title. Unless Doctor Strange 2 ends with Scarlet Witch having another emotional/mental breakdown, the show's unique setup won't be repeated in a continuation. Still, the next chapter of Wanda's story can further explore the source and capabilities of her powers. This could also be where Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) pops up again. White Vision's whereabouts and the status of Billy and Tommy are additional plot points that need to be addressed as Scarlet Witch's story continues. Maybe WandaVision season 2 could even include mutant connections or make the theories of Mephisto a reality, even if it ultimately takes on a different name.
