WandaVision confirms Scarlet Witch could've beaten Thanos in Avengers: Endgame all on her own, if he didn't call in reinforcements. Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe had gotten underway, comic book readers debated who the strongest Avenger (and superhero) was, and that conversation carried over to the big screen versions of those characters. Thor often claims he's the strongest Avenger, but it was Hulk who was needed to perform the snap in Endgame, bringing everyone back to life.

Thor and Hulk's strengths were put to the test in Thor: Ragnarok, but despite one of them winning, Captain Marvel was largely considered to be the strongest Avenger - that is, until Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige confirmed in 2019 that it was actually Scarlet Witch who could beat them all. That much was proven in Endgame, when 2014's Thanos time traveled to the present day and fought the Avengers outside their compound. Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America tried to beat Thanos on their own, but neither of them stood a chance against him. When the rest of the Avengers returned, Wanda Maximoff trapped Thanos using her powers and actually could've killed him, but she was stopped by a bombing raid from Thanos' ship.

Although it was heavily implied Wanda could've beaten Thanos alone, WandaVision now confirms that as a fact. When discussing Wanda's abilities and how she's powering the magic bubble surrounding Westview in WandaVision season 1, episode 5, Darcy Lewis says Wanda needs to be using an "insane amount of power," to which Jimmy Woo adds, "Far exceeding anything she's displayed in the past." Part of that statement is true, but Monica Rambeau refutes that Wanda wasn't always this powerful, saying, "She could have taken out Thanos on her own if he hadn't initiated a blitz," referring to his ship "raining fire" down on the Avengers in Endgame's final battle.

Scarlet Witch and Thanos in Endgame

Unlike in the comics, Wanda isn't a mutant in the MCU and, instead, obtained her powers from the Mind Stone. Since those stones are primordial and content energy the universe hasn't seen since the Big Bang, it's understandable for characters powered by the Infinity Stones - Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Captain Marvel - to be stronger than everyone else. But in Wanda's case, she has both physical and psychic powers, which make her a force to be reckoned with. She can crush people, pull them apart, and mind-control them, all of which were on display in Wanda's last three appearances on-screen - Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and WandaVision.

Wanda can manipulate practically anything - energy and reality being her main two focuses - and using a combination of her abilities is why she was able to take on Thanos singlehandedly. She caught Thanos in a force field, of sorts, and began crushing him and his seemingly impenetrable armor. And years before that - though only moments for her - she used her telekinetic powers to destroy the Mind Stone, from which she received her powers just like Vision. Wanda may be exhibiting new powers in WandaVision, but the strength level of those abilities was always there.
