A new video featuring concept art for WandaVision compares alternate versions of the Scarlet Witch's final costume. WandaVision kicked off the MCU's Phase 4 in January 2021 when it became the franchise's first live-action series to premiere on Disney+. Created by Jac Schaeffer, the series saw Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany return to their roles as Wanda Maximoff and Vision after their tragic parting in Avengers: Endgame. The series also stars Randall Park, Kat Dennings, and Evan Peters, and it introduces Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness and Teyonah Parris as an adult Monica Rambeau.

WandaVision told an unprecedented story for the MCU as it mixed genres between classic sitcoms and an unconventional mystery. The nine-episode series began with Wanda and Vision living in apparent wedded bliss in the suburbs of a 1960s sitcom. At first, neither Wanda nor Vision seem to acknowledge their strange environment or Vision's past death in Endgame, but as the season progresses, both Wanda's control and the town's mystery unravel. Wanda ends the series as the fully realized Scarlet Witch, complete with a new costume that calls back to her iconic comic book design. WandaVision's new approach earned it praise from critics as well as several awards including a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes.

This week, Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park compared Scarlet Witch's final costume to alternate designs in an Instagram post. The video posted cycles through concept art of multiple options for Wanda's final Scarlet Witch costume with Park sharing in the caption that he felt Marvel Studios' directors and producers chose the right one. Although Park had shared his WandaVision concept art before, this video highlights the differences between the final design used in the show and Park's alternate designs. Check out the video below:

Although Wanda Maximoff joined the MCU in 2014 in a cameo appearance in Captain America: The Winter SoldierWandaVision tells the true origin story of the Scarlet Witch. Wanda fully embraces her identity as the Scarlet Witch in the series finale episode and her easily recognizable new look only emphasizes that point. The Scarlet Witch will be returning in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While Doctor Strange deals with more fallout of accidentally opening the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the trailers tease Wanda in a villainous role.

Every part of the MCU requires teams of people to create the finished result, and Park's post, which shares a part of the design process, demonstrates that. It is interesting to think about why the final design was chosen or what effect an alternate design would have created. Now that WandaVision fully revealed Wanda as the Scarlet Witch, it will be fun to see how her costume changes as Wanda's story continues in the upcoming Multiverse of Madness.
