WandaVision star, Paul Bettany says he flipped out once to get out of his Vision costume. Bettany has been a part of the MCU since its beginning, voicing J.A.R.V.I.S in 2008's Iron ManAfter returning to voice J.A.R.V.I.S in the two Iron Man sequels, Bettany made his debut as Vision in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron. Vision's star-crossed romance with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and his tragic death during 2018's Avengers: Infinity War led to a deeper exploration of his relationship with the Scarlet Witch in the hit MCU streaming series, WandaVision.

It was evident from the very first episode of WandaVision that something wasn't quite right with the sitcom-centric town of Westview. Wanda had initially unintentionally created a fantasy world for herself in the Westview hex. This was so Wanda could live a happy life with Vision and their twin boys, Billy (Julian Hilliard) and Tommy (Jett Klyne.) Ironically, it was Vision himself who was the first character to question the flaws in Wanda's false reality. He would later restore his memories to White Vision in the series finale, and parted with Wanda once again when she lifted the Westview hex.

Bettany revealed in an interview with ACE Universe  (via comicbook.comthat he flipped out once during WandaVision filming. He needed to get out of his Vision costume after being in it for so long, he explained. Read more about what happened and why Bettany felt "embarrassed" about the moment below:

I guess I had one time where I flipped out on set and I just went 'somebody has to help me get out of this suit,' and they pulled it down and everybody was really lovely. It's so embarrassing to talk about because obviously you're getting paid to wear an uncomfortable suit but after five days in a row of just being encased in this thing you're like 'I gotta get it off my chest.' I sat there for like five, ten minutes just breathing, and then we went back into it and it was fine. That was the one time I think I flipped out. I'm mostly kind of chill, calm.

Vision Dying Outside Of Hex

Although Bettany described himself as "flipping out," in that moment, it's completely understandable that he would need a break from the costume. After all, not only did he have to wear the Vision costume for several consecutive days of filming, but the suit had to be tweaked even more by the WandaVision special effects team for the '50s and '60s themed episodes so Vision would still look like himself in black and white. The dedication and hard work from Bettany and the special effects team certainly paid off, because Vision looked better than ever during the entirety of WandaVision.

The question that now remains is whether or not Bettany will ever don the Vision costume once more. WandaVision left Vision's plausible possible return literally up in the air, as White Vision flew away from Westview Vision after having his memories restored. Because White Vision was made from the materials that made up the original Vision, it would absolutely make sense that he can appear in a future MCU project. However, Bettany himself has said he currently isn't contracted for any post-WandaVision Marvel projects.

While the future of Vision's return is uncertain, there is no doubt that Bettany is a Marvel treasure. It is challenging to imagine anyone else playing Vision with the same sense of controlled emotion and gravitas that Bettany portrays so masterfully. Hopefully Bettany's post-WandaVision Marvel return isn't a matter of if, but rather when he will reprise his iconic role.
