The most recent episode of WandaVision brought the idea of the "Nexus" into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thanks to a carefully designed advert, created to be an easter egg teasing what's to come, the scene has sparked a great deal of discussion surrounding the Nexus.

However, while hardcore fans of Marvel Comics might be quite used to the concept of the Nexus, there are plenty of casual members of the audience who may not be familiar with the source material. So as the show continues to explore comic icons like the twins, mess around with characters from other universes, and play on the introduction of the Nexus, there's plenty of things to keep in mind about the reality-altering entity.

Unknown Origins

Nexus Of All Realities Comic

It's not completely clear how the Nexus of all Realities was actually created. It may have always have been there, pre-dating the universe itself. Perhaps it was created alongside The Big Bang. There's even been theories that some kind of god could have actually created it.

The mystery surrounding the Nexus is an odd one. Oftentimes in Marvel Comics, some strange entity like this is explained away, or given a definitive origin. The Marvel Cinematic Universe may choose to go this route or follow the comics that inspired the show and continue the mystery.

Nexus Beings

Wanda Solo

There are a number of characters from across the Marvel Universe known as Nexus Beings. They could be considered to be deities in some ways. They are people who can actually impact reality through their own magic or powers.

Wanda Maximoff is one of those Nexus Beings in the comics, with her abilities demonstrating that she can completely change reality, in part thanks to her hexes. For the MCU, WandaVision is starting to show the Scarlet Witch may, indeed, be a Nexus Being in this on-screen reality too.

The Time Variance Authority

Loki Time Variance Authority

The Time Variance Authority has an incredibly important role in the comics, as it watches over the timeline of the Marvel Universe, ensuring that everything remains intact. For the MCU, Loki will be introducing a small-screen version of the TVA.

One of their other duties is to observe Nexus Beings, through the Nexus of all Realities, to ensure that they are not tampering with reality and the universe too much. It's extremely possible that the TVA may hold this role in the MCU, as they try to fix some of the most confusing aspects of the Marvel timeline.

Traveling Through Realities

Part of the Nexus is that it allows people to actually travel across different realities. This is incredibly important for the Marvel Multiverse. While there are other ways through of course, it's a way of organizing the Multiverse for audiences to understand.

Perhaps this is exactly how Quicksilver made his way into the MCU from the Fox universe. Of course, with the Multiverse becoming a point of interest for this on-screen universe, it's possible that the Nexus of all Realities will hold a similar role here to the comics.

Many Entries In Many Worlds

Each reality has its own entry point to the Nexus of all Realities. In many ways, the Nexus is like a corridor to the many different worlds that populate the Marvel Multiverse. As such, there has to be a doorway to enter and exit through.

The traditional Earth-616 has a doorway located in a Louisiana swamp. However, the other realities have their own alternative locations for the entrance, with each world having only one. The MCU version may indeed also be found in the same swamp.

Realities Between Realities

One of the strangest elements of the Nexus of all Realities is that it actually opens up the universe even further, allowing characters to travel to what's known as "the realities between realities." This may seem like quite an odd concept for those who have never read a comic.

However, these sub-realities are slightly alternate versions of the main realities. These kinds of realities can be extended beyond human understanding though. Some realities might fit into a different category altogether too, with the Micro-verse as a good example of this.

Future Timelines

The Nexus of all Realities also connects to the future timelines that could potentially exist. Much like in the MCU, every time a new reality is created thanks to the branching timelines, it is added to the Nexus of all Realities.

This has allowed the comics to explore a number of potential futures, each serving up a different fate for these famous heroes. The MCU has introduced the idea of branching time streams, so there's a possibility that these two things might interconnect; perhaps changing the current reality by bringing in Mutants.

Man-Thing

Man-Thing is an incredibly important piece of the puzzle. The Nexus is extremely dangerous and some doorways therefore have gatekeepers, who protect it at all costs. For the Marvel Universe, Man-Thing is one of these key guardians.

For an unknown reason, he has been drawn to the Nexus and therefore lives in the swamps, warding off those who might use it for villainous purposes. The MCU has yet to have introduced Man-Thing, although it's a character that could believably be brought in for this same purpose.

Previous MCU Appearance

Nexus Internet Hub - Tony Stark

The Nexus has actually appeared in the MCU previously, although not in the way that may have been expected. The Nexus has been mentioned by Tony Stark as a digital program, linking the world's data and information (something Ultron takes advantage of).

It seems strange that the Nexus might have been used in this way before. It's possible that the continuity is just being changed and this is merely an easter egg that should now be ignored, or there may be a chance that this is somehow linked to the reality Nexus as well.

The Future Of The Nexus

The way in which this could impact the future of the MCU of course remains to be seen, but with the Multiverse becoming a big part of the Doctor Strange and Spider-Man sequels, the Nexus may be the key to this.

Quicksilver has already appeared from the Fox timeline and more shocking links like this could happen, thanks to tampering with the Nexus. The introduction of the Time Variance Authority only adds to this speculation.
