The first reactions to Marvel Studios' WandaVision Disney+ show have arrived. Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is starting very differently than Marvel originally planned. Following delays to all 2020 movies and the first wave of Disney+ shows, the MCU is kicking off 2021 with WandaVision. The series returns Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany to their MCU roles, but this time Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch and Vision will be the main characters.

Their new story is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, but Scarlet Witch and Vision will find themselves living in an altered reality that mirrors different sitcoms and decades. The mystery of how and why they are in this state is a key plot point for WandaVision, as it will also have to explain how Vision is "alive" after dying twice in Avengers: Infinity War. With the marketing highlighting the oddities that come with Wanda and Vision's new domestic life, MCU fans are mostly still wondering what exactly the story is about.

Less than a week before the first two episodes of WandaVision debut on Disney+, Marvel allowed some members of the press to see episodes of the show to do interviews with the cast. These individuals all got access to the first three episodes and Marvel has lifted the embargo so they can share their first spoiler-free reactions to WandaVision. Here's what people are saying so far:

Based on the trailers alone, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the first reactions to WandaVision frequently note how different it is from past MCU projects. The show has been described as half-sitcom, half-MCU spectacular by those involved, so the first three episodes shown to the press come from the sitcom half. Although Marvel's movies are often comedically-inclined, none of them are as committed to emulating a certain style as WandaVision is in honoring past sitcoms. For fans hoping to get some regular MCU action in the earlier episodes, it might be best to adjust expectations.

These reactions are spoiler-free so plot details aren't being openly discussed, but it does sound like WandaVision takes its time to set up and unravel the mystery behind the show. Some reactions note that there are Easter eggs to the comics and MCU included, but major plot reveals might not happen right away either. Still, the mystery of WandaVision and terrific leading performances by Olsen and Bettany seem to make up for what the show might lack in action or big surprises early on. Thankfully there is less than a week left until WandaVision arrives on Disney+ on January 15, so it won't be long before fans get to check out the start of Phase 4 themselves.
