Here's how the Mind Stone could be back after the events of Avengers: Infinity War in WandaVision. Following the coronavirus pandemic that has thrown a wrench at Marvel Studios' Phase 4 schedule, the Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany-led show is now slated to kick off MCU's exclusive series instead of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Tipped to roll out this December, the project's first trailer has officially been released giving fans a peek at the trippy small screen offering.

Released during the 2020 Emmys, the WandaVision trailer clocks in at a minute and 20 seconds that features the return of the star-crossed lovers as they live a seemingly great life as a married couple living in the suburbs. Later on in the video, there's also the reveal of Wanda and Vision's supposed twin sons, implying a progression in their family life. As previously revealed, the WandaVision mines inspiration from a string of classic sitcoms which is apparent in the promo clip's aesthetic with visual references to I Love Lucy and Full House, among others. The clip also debuts Kathryn Hahn's still-unnamed character who's only described as a "nosy neighbor," not to mention a tease of adult Monica Rambeau (Teyona Parris) and SWORD's operation on Earth after Spider-Man: Far From Home confirmed its existence.

There's a lot to discuss from the new WandaVision trailer. However, the show's biggest question remains to be how Vision is alive following Infinity War. In conjunction with that, it's also unclear how he still has the Mind Stone, which appears to still be functioning in terms of being the Android's source of power.

The Mind Stone Returns In WandaVision (Despite Infinity War)

WandaVision Vision Flying

Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War revolved around Thanos' (Josh Brolin) hunt for all six Infinity Stones scattered around the galaxy, including the Mind Stone which was on Earth with Vision. After the retrieval of Loki's (Tom Hiddleston) scepter in Avengers: Age of Ultron which previously housed the crystal, it has been with the Android, as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) claims that it's safe with him. This effectively made him a target in Infinity War as Black Order members Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight hunted him and Wanda in Scotland. The lovers were able to fend off the villain thanks to the timely back-up from Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Falcon (Anthony Mackie). However, that wasn't the end of their problem; they knew that it was only a matter of time before Thanos got to him, so they tried extracting the Infinity Stone safely with the help of Shuri (Letitia Wright). Unfortunately, time ran out and the Mad Titan ultimately got his hands on the Mind Gem, leaving Vision dead.

Given the manner of his death in Infinity War, Vision was not brought back by Smart Hulk's (Mark Ruffalo) snap in Avengers: Endgame, meaning he and the Mind Stone supposedly do not exist in the primary MCU timeline. Even if the Android's body was somehow reconstructed, making it possible for him to reunite with Wanda, he shouldn't have the Mind Stone with him. However, the official WandaVision trailer not only reveals that it's back with Vision, but it's still also functioning well, allowing him to tap into having the same superpowers he's had before the Mind Stone was plucked out of his forehead by Thanos.

WandaVision's Mind Stone Is Likely From Scarlet Witch Changing Reality

WandaVision Time Shift

As previously noted, there are ways to reconstruct Vision, especially with the help of Shuri and Bruce Banner, who was involved in his creation in Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, this doesn't answer the mystery surrounding the return of the Mind Stone. After Thanos used all six Infinity Stones, he reduced them into atomic particles, making them essentially nothing. Meanwhile, the secondary Mind Stone that was among the gems collected by the Avengers during Avengers: Endgame's time heist was returned to its original location by Captain America at the end of the film. These mean that the yellow crystal does not exist in the primary MCU timeline. So, how does Vision have it back in his forehead in WandaVision?

The answer could lie in Scarlet Witch's involvement in all this. Marvel Studios hasn't fully explored Scarlet Witch's powers in the MCU, but the upcoming Disney+ series is finally giving her the attention she truly deserves. Last year at San Diego Comic-Con, Elizabeth Olsen teased that fans will "finally understand Wanda Maximoff as Scarlet Witch" through the show — that means that the franchise is ready to fully tackle her incredible super abilities in the comics, one of which is the ability to alter reality using her mind.

Between that and what fans know about WandaVision thus far, Wanda appears to be warping reality around her, most likely in the hopes of bringing Vision back into the world. And, since her motivation stems from wanting to reunite with her lover, it makes sense that she'd come up with a version of him that she knows — still with the Mind Stone on his head. It's also worth noting that in the WandaVision trailer, Wanda still has her powers in her make-believe world, so Vision maintaining his fits in all of this. As Hahn's character confirmed, despite his married life with Wanda, Vision is still dead — intriguingly, something that he doesn't seem to be fully aware of.

Could The Mind Stone (& Vision) Return For Real In WandaVision?

WandaVision Trailer

Scarlet Witch's bending reality to her whim could explain how Vision and the Mind Stone's are back in the primary MCU timeline; this and its eventual unraveling will be the focal point of WandaVision's narrative. After Hahn's mysterious character, rumored to be Agatha Harkness, told the Android that he is, in fact, dead, it appears as if it's finally starting to dawn on him that there's something wrong with the life he's been living in Wanda. Backing the idea that Vision doesn't necessarily know what's going on is his flabbergasted face when asked about where he and Wanda were originally from by their new neighbors at their dinner. While it's possible that he's simply thrown off by the question considering their unconventional romance, his face looks more like he's trying to remember something but is drawing a blank. It's likely that when Scarlet Witch conjured up this version of the character, she left off the part about his experience in Avengers: Infinity War, hence why he's no recollection of his death.

So, is there any possibility for both Vision and the Mind Stone to properly return into the franchise given their current predicament? As previously mentioned, Vision can be reconstructed considering his robotic make-up. Assuming that his body is still in Wakanda after Avengers: Infinity War, Shuri can provide help in essentially rebooting him and providing a different power source than the Mind Stone. That said, it's also not outside the realm of possibility that the Android can re-acquire the Infinity Stone as WandaVision will be narratively connected to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As the Benedict Cumberbatch and Sam Raimi's movie title suggest, the sequel will see the titular sorcerer exploring the multiverse, meaning that he can ultimately get the Mind Stone from a different reality, deliver it to prime MCU and give it to Vision. This could ultimately comfort Wanda as her grief more likely motivated her to play with reality in the first place.
