Disney+’s WandaVision will have a very different concept to what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has done so far, and it’s very possible that Scarlet Witch is already inside the multiverse. As per tradition, the Super Bowl brought a lot of interesting commercials and trailers, among those one from Disney+ and its upcoming Marvel TV shows: WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki. The ad/teaser offered a quick look at these shows, and the one that made the biggest impression was that of WandaVision.

WandaVision will center on Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), and will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. WandaVision will be a very important element in the MCU’s new era as it will tie into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Scarlet Witch has been confirmed to appear in the film. And yet, in typical Marvel fashion, plot details on the series are unknown, though it has been reported that it will have a sitcom style and will be jumping back and forth between the 1950s and the present day. Disney+’s Super Bowl teaser confirmed just that, but it also showed that Wanda and Vision will be present in other decades too.

There are no details on what Wanda’s role in Doctor Stranger 2 will be either, but there are many theories thanks to her history in the comic books, the most common one being that of Scarlet Witch being the multiverse of madness – but what if she’s already in it, and that’s what WandaVision will be all about? Let’s take a look.

Reality Is Somehow Warped In WandaVision

The Disney+ teaser, although brief, gave viewers a good look at the different decades Wanda and Vision will visit/live in, but it also showed that reality is somehow warped. Vision is one of the few characters that couldn’t be brought back after Hulk’s snap in Avengers: Endgame, as he died before Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Infinity War, when the Mad Titan removed the mind stone from his forehead. However, the teaser shows Vision alive and well – but not in the present. Vision appears next to Wanda in settings that look to be the 1950s, 1960s/70s, and 1990s, and a black and white Vision has an encounter with present day Wanda.

It all points at her somehow managing to warp reality, making it possible for her to come face to face with Vision from a different time period. This ability and the consequences of it will directly affect Doctor Strange’s new solo film, but it also implies that Wanda is already in the multiverse, which makes everything she does all the more dangerous.

Theory: WandaVision Takes Place In The MCU’s Multiverse

Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch

Every time setting shows a different version of Vision and Wanda: in what looks like the 1950s, the pair is seen on their wedding day, and in the next time jump, Wanda is pregnant. There’s also a very quick look at Vision and Wanda in front of two cribs, confirming that WandaVision will introduce their twins. All these versions of the pair could be some of the different realities that form the multiverse, meaning that Wanda is now navigating from one reality to the other – and one big hint is her encounter with 1950s Vision, while the Wanda from that same decade is on the TV behind her.

“Multiverse” is the collective term for all parallel dimensions that exist in the MCU. Some of these are the Earthly Plane, the Quantum Realm, the Astral Dimension, the Dark Dimension, and many more, but it also includes alternate timelines where history has progressed in a different way (as seen in Avengers: Endgame). With that in mind, it’s very possible that Wanda is now jumping from one reality to the other, allowing viewers to see what her life is like in all those alternate realities. Question is: what made her jump into the multiverse?

Vision’s death was a big shakeup in Wanda’s life, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that she is navigating through these different realities in order to bring (one version of) Vision back to her present, which, if she manages to achieve, will have some serious consequences that will impact Doctor Strange 2. On the other hand, Wanda has a history of mental instability, and was given reality warping powers at some point in the comics, so her visiting these alternate realities could be a result of her exploring and trying to control these abilities, which can have some interesting yet dangerous repercussions, making way for the multiverse of madness in Strange’s next solo adventure.

WandaVision’s Multiverse Can Setup Doctor Strange 2

Scarlet Witch Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness Villain Theory

Disney+’s Marvel TV shows will be an active part of the MCU, unlike Netflix’s shows, which were set within this universe but never really tied into any of the films. So far, only two series are confirmed to be directly linked to the film side of the MCU: WandaVision and Loki, both tying into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Wanda is confirmed to appear in Doctor Strange 2, so everything she does in her series will affect Strange’s sequel. If Wanda is already in the multiverse of madness, whether because she wants to bring Vision back or because she’s exploring her powers, there are big chances of something going wrong, thus kickstarting the multiverse of madness.

As mentioned above, the most popular theory regarding Wanda’s role in Doctor Strange 2 says she will be the one to cause the multiverse of madness, this when taking the House of M storyline as basis. In it, and thanks to her ability to restructure reality itself, she created an alternate timeline where she granted everyone their heart’s desires, which obviously didn’t go well. If Wanda is already moving through the multiverse, it would be easier for Doctor Strange 2 to introduce the multiverse of madness, as she could be the one to create mayhem, and Strange the one to fix it – maybe even with the help of Loki.

With WandaVision now scheduled for a 2020 release, it hopefully won’t be long until Marvel and Disney+ release a proper trailer for the series that shows a bit more about the plot and how (present day) Wanda will handle all these alternate realities in which her partner is very much alive. What remains to be seen, of course, is how this will affect her, emotionally and psychologically, and the effects this will have in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
