WandaVision continues to make history for Marvel Studios by nabbing its first Emmys. Though the MCU previously attempted to transition into television with efforts like Agents of SHIELD and Daredevil, the dissolution of Marvel Television effectively wiped the slate clean. Marvel Studios then began producing shows exclusively for Disney+, shows that would hold deeper connections to the movies than past projects. WandaVision was the first to premiere back in January, and with its unique style and determination to bring the spectacle of the MCU to television, it felt like a gamble in many senses.

Luckily, WandaVision proved to be a success. Starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany as Vision, the series found the two living in perfect, domestic bliss, as if in a sitcom. As WandaVision gradually unraveled, the truth behind their new circumstances emerged. The limited series was a hit with critics and fans, and when it scored a whopping 23 Emmy nominations, it became the show with the second-highest number of noms this year. WandaVision is up for outstanding limited series, while both Olsen and Bettany are up for acting awards, as well as Kathryn Hahn (who played Agatha Harkness).

Though the Primetime Emmys are next week, the Creative Arts Emmys have already kicked off. The first of three ceremonies took place on Saturday night and yielded the first awards for WandaVision (via Variety). The Marvel series won two Emmys: narrative (half-hour) production design and sci-fi/fantasy costumes. These are the first Emmys Marvel Studios has ever won, though not the first ones for a Marvel show; Jessica Jones previously nabbed a win for its main title music.

The Queen's Gambit was the major winner of the first night of the Creative Arts Emmys, though WandaVision still has plenty of opportunities to score more victories. Bettany and Hahn both appear to be the favorites in their respective categories, and Olsen shouldn't be counted out in what is a stacked leading actress field. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how WandaVision will fare in the limited series category, where it will go up against shows like The Queen's Gambit and Mare of Easttown.

Nevertheless, WandaVision's wins are a major triumph for Marvel Studios. The MCU finally managed to breakout at the Oscars with Black Panther in 2019, but it was unclear if it could make magic happen on the small screen. Some might say the true test of Marvel's success will be if WandaVision can win in any of the above-the-line categories, but it's safe to say the series is already brought in acclaim for the franchise. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is also up for awards at the Emmys, but save for one, all of its categories have yet to be called. At this year's Emmys, Marvel is off to an impressive start.
