Warning! Spoilers for WandaVision episode 4.

The real-life consequences of Thanos' snap in Avengers: Infinity War are revealed in WandaVision. Five years has passed in the MCU since the Avengers failed to stop the Mad Titan from collecting the Infinity Stones and decimating half of life in the name of balancing the universe. But while Avengers: Endgame directly picked up from the tragic ending of its predecessor, the franchise has yet to really show the on-the-ground effects of the blip, until now.

Functioning as the epilogue to the Infinity Saga, Spider-Man: Far From Home briefly touched on the subject. But the Jon Watts-directed movie was more focused on Peter Parker grieving the death of Tony Stark in Endgame. Aside from the introduction that acknowledged what's happened in the blip and its eventual reversal, the film didn't revisit the idea for the duration of its run. Worse, it never really tackled the serious repercussions of what happened; it was made for laughs instead, decreasing the gravitas of the tragedy. Seemingly knowing this, Marvel Studios is rectifying the problem almost two years later in WandaVision.

In the latest WandaVision episode titled "We Interrupt This Program," the show's perspective shifts from inside Wanda and Vision's pocket reality to the outside world. The outing began with Monica Rambeau reforming after Smart Hulk's reverse snap in a hospital where she was five years prior. Confused, she sought anyone who could explain to her what happened, and it was immediately clear the chaos that ensued following the consecutive returns of those who were snuffed out of existence. There are obvious practical problems with this, particularly with how the people are brought back in now dangerous situations such as in the middle of a busy street, causing additional accidents. WandaVision actually hints that this may have already been the case as the doctor told Monica that the hospitals can no longer cope with the influx of patients, whether arriving at the hospital, or reforming within it.

Avengers Infinity War Thanos Snap Gauntlet

Aside from this, the show also highlights indirect real-life consequences of Thanos' snap. The Mad Titan claimed his plan was to decimate half of life in the universe in the name of balance, but the blip killed more than those who were snuffed out of existence. For example, people going through a sensitive operation or medical procedure may have likely died after their doctors or other personnel disappeared. The same goes for if a pilot went missing in the middle of a flight or a public transport lost its driver; suffice to say, the list goes on. To say nothing of the fact that half the world has spent five years grieving and grappling with enormous, Earth-shattering loss while the newly returned feel just fine, as if no time had passed at all.

It's interesting to wonder if this will be further tackled in upcoming shows, but in hindsight, WandaVision is in a much better position to deal with the real-world aftermath of Infinity War and Endgame. For starters, it takes place earlier in the MCU timeline than Far From Home, not to mention the fact its narrative is focused on Wanda, someone who lost a very important person in her life not directly through the snap, but as an indirect victim of it. Moreover, it also features a string of franchise players who weren't privy to what happened in the fight against Thanos like Monica, Jimmy, and even Darcy, further showing how it impacted the world.
