WandaVision episode 6 establishes why SWORD's acting director Tyler Hayward hates superheroes. Marvel's first Disney+ show has continued the Marvel Cinematic Universe's story in some unexpected ways. The series takes place just a few weeks after Avengers: Endgame and showed what it was like for those coming back from Thanos' snap. While exploring "The Blip" is one thing, the MCU has still not really explored what the world was like for those who lived during the five years when half of the universe's population disappeared.

One character in WandaVision who appeared to have a tough time during those five years between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame is SWORD's acting director. Hayward explained to Monica Rambeau in WandaVision that SWORD underwent some changes during that time, including the death of Monica's mother and SWORD founder Maria Rambeau, as well as limiting its space missions. It wasn't all bad for Hayward, though, as he received a promotion. It was under his supervision that Vision's body was experimented on, leading Scarlet Witch to take it back and create the Westview anomaly.

More recently, Hayward has started to show his true colors and hatred for superheroes. He ordered a missile strike against Scarlet Witch in WandaVision episode 5, but it was in episode 6 that he spelled out why he doesn't like her or any superheroes. During a heated exchange between Hayward and Monica Rambeau, SWORD's director indicates that The Blip was quite hard to navigate. He says that she has no idea what it took to keep the lights on because she hadn't been there, being herself one of the dusted. Hayward clearly resents superheroes because of The Blip, blaming them for the chaos of the last five years since they couldn't stop Thanos.

While Hayward's hatred for superheroes might not be entirely well-placed, since they were the ones to bring everyone back, after all, he likely isn't the only one who feels this way. Since WandaVision has already gone back to the moment that The Blip happened, the show could go back even further. This might be an opportunity to show what the world was like after Thanos' snap and explain if something happened to Hayward's life, in particular, to make him feel this way. It would be an interesting parallel to Wanda to learn that a traumatic event in his life triggered his hatred since that's essentially what led Wanda Maximoff to become Scarlet Witch and create Westview.

Hayward hating superheroes could have major implications on SWORD's current priorities and plans for the future. WandaVision has already seen Monica comment that SWORD was in the business of observing sentient weapons in the past, not creating them as they appear to be doing now. Hayward's hatred for superheroes could mean that SWORD is focused on creating weapons to protect Earth and even fight off superheroes who get in their way. There are already theories that the organization could be behind creating the MCU's version of X-Men villains, the Sentinels, and that could be the tip of the iceberg in terms of what Hayward and SWORD have planned. WandaVision viewers might need to prepare for SWORD being the villains thanks to Hayward.
