Although WandaVision is the latest Marvel TV series to release, its number of episodes is more comparable to other Disney+ series like The Mandalorian than it is to Agents of SHIELD. The latter TV show kicked off Marvel's foray into television in 2013; but while the ABC series was helmed by the studio Marvel TV, which has now shuttered and been folded into Marvel Studios, WandaVision is the first show to come from the main MCU studio.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Marvel Studios' initial plans for Phase 4 have been reshuffled; Black Widow is no longer leading the charge with its release, but is rather coming after two TV shows have already wrapped up - WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - while releasing alongside the third TV series, Loki. On top of that, WandaVision wasn't meant to be the first TV show out the gate, but rather the second, after Falcon and Winter Soldier's series. Despite how things worked out, WandaVision is a perfect property to kickoff Phase 4 with.

WandaVision premieres with two episodes on January 15 and will have nine episodes in total, meaning the finale will air on March 5 (releasing weekly on Fridays). Not all nine episodes will be the same length, however, seeing as this series is airing on Disney+ and will make up six hours of content in total. WandaVision was originally supposed to be six, one-hour long episodes (or, at least estimated to be about six hours), but that plan changed somewhere down the line. Now WandaVision will have nine episodes that will be spread across eight weeks.

That plan to have nine episodes won't apply to every Marvel Studios TV show, though. Coming two weeks after WandaVision's season 1 finale is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which will have six 40-50 minute episodes - the same will apply to Loki (coming out in May) and Moon Knight, which is currently in development. One series that is confirmed to have more episodes than WandaVision is She-Hulk; that will have 10 half-hour episodes, which falls in line with it being described as a "legal comedy" show.

Given that most upcoming Marvel TV shows are meant to be 40-50 minutes long, it's fair to presume the same will apply to WandaVision. If season 1 really has six hours of content to show, then that means each episode could be a clean 40 minutes long. That's probably not the case - not exactly, that is - so viewers may see a fluctuation in episode length similar to that of The Mandalorian.
