The events of the WandaVision finale gave Scarlet Witch an ending with several parallels to that of Thanos' own conclusion in Avengers: Infinity War. After weeks of building up the mystery of Wanda's new reality, WandaVision's finale brought it all crashing down. Alongside defeating Agatha Harkness and thwarting S.W.O.R.D.'s plans, Wanda had to undo all of the damage she had done to Westview and its residents, reversing her magical spell to return things back to normal.

WandaVision's ending wasn't a happy one, but it did at least give Wanda a newfound sense of peace - or at least that's how it appeared. In a remote, undisclosed location, Wanda lived in a cabin and made tea, while also reading the Darkhold and presumably learning more about her Chaos Magic and what being the Scarlet Witch really means. It was a fitting, poignant ending for Wanda's arc in WandaVision, and while setting up more to come in the future, it also linked to the MCU's past.

Several MCU movies were referenced in WandaVision, but few more so than Avengers: Infinity War. That makes sense, not only because of how dramatically it altered the MCU's world, but because it's where Wanda not only had to kill Vision, but then watch him die all over again at the hands of Thanos, making it a crucial part of WandaVision's puzzle - and that also applies to its ending. Just like in Infinity War, Wanda has to watch as Vision is destroyed all over again, in a way being the one to kill him once more. That's part of her wiping out the universe she had created around her (which itself was linked to the Mind Stone), and then she ends in an idyllic-looking location, far removed from anything or anyone. All of that is similar to Thanos who, after killing Vision, wipes out half the universe with the Snap (using the Infinity Stones), and then retires to his farm for an ostensibly peaceful life, with the pair even ending in similar cabins.

Of course, there's a big difference between Scarlet Witch's ending in WandaVision and Thanos' in Avengers: Infinity War. For the Mad Titan, the Snap was the final part of his grand plan and his ultimate victory, allowing him to enjoy his hard-earned retirement. For Wanda, it's a much more emotional conclusion - her being able to begin moving on from her grief is very much a good thing for her, but it's also a sad ending where she has to say goodbye to her family. Her wiping out the universe is the opposite of the goal she set out with, rather than the climax of it. Likewise, her new location is not about retirement, but about finding herself and learning more about her power, while being somewhere she isn't a danger to anyone.

Finally, there's also clear setup for more in both of the endings. For Thanos, this was in the Avengers coming for revenge, which played out in Avengers: Endgame. For WandaVision, its post-credits scene sets up some big things to come for Scarlet Witch: her reading of the Darkhold will likely tie into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which Wanda will appear in, and perhaps its potential villain Chthon, who is strongly linked to both the Darkhold and Chaos Magic. Her hearing the twins, too, could come into play there, while also laying groundwork for their return in a Young Avengers team-up. Scarlet Witch lost a lot because of Thanos, which is why their face-off in Endgame was so great, and makes it even more fascinating that their endings further link them together.
