Warning! Spoilers ahead for Marvel's WandaVision episode 9

Who is WandaVision's Sorcerer Supreme? In the finale of the Marvel series on Disney+, Wanda Maximoff embraced her power as the Scarlet Witch in her battle with Agatha Harkness, a fellow witch looking to take Wanda's magic for herself. However, during their battle Agatha revealed that the Book of the Damned, known as the Darkhold, contains an entire chapter and prophecy about her. Reading from it, Agatha makes reference not only to Wanda's dark future, but also to her power in comparison to the Sorcerer Supreme. Who is the Sorcerer Supreme being referred to, and is Scarlet Witch destined to face them if she goes dark?

While the probable and most likely answer for the identity of the Sorcerer Supreme would be Doctor Strange, it should be noted that he was not automatically granted the role after the death of the Ancient One in 2016's Doctor Strange. According to Wong, Strange still had much to learn. "Word of the Ancient One’s death will spread through the Multiverse. Earth has no Sorcerer Supreme to defend it. We must be ready." While Doctor Strange certainly seems to have learned much since then and used a variety of powerful spells in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, there's yet to be any sort of official confirmation that he received the rank and title he has in the comics.

In any case, the Sorcerer Supreme may be in trouble in the near future of the MCU, as Agatha's reading from the Darkhold reveals that the Scarlet Witch's power "exceeds that of the Sorcerer Supreme." Furthermore, Agatha tells Wanda that it's her destiny to destroy the world. While Wanda seems pretty determined to forge her own path and not let Agatha dictate who she is or what she might become, the implications of this prophecy are pretty grim, especially if it means that Wanda and the Sorcerer Supreme will one day be opposed to one another. It's also possible that this name-drop means that there is a current Sorcerer Supreme in existence (and it could be Strange himself).

Regardless of whether or not Doctor Strange has already attained the title of Sorcerer Supreme after the Avengers films or is still working on it, he does seem to be the most likely candidate. If he doesn't have it already, perhaps the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see him finally earn it in the MCU. However, it's been reported that Wanda will be featured in the film as well, though it remains to be seen if she'll be friend or foe. Given this prophecy, that distinction is very much up in the air. However, the series finale ended with Wanda studying from the Darkhold itself after she defeated Agatha and left the town of Westview, which can't be a positive way to learn the finer points of magic.

While there's still a chance that the role of Sorcerer Supreme could belong to someone else in the MCU, the bigger problem is that they seemingly won't be able to stop Wanda as the Scarlet Witch no matter who they are. If the Scarlet Witch decides to become a villain and follow her destiny in the Darkhold, the MCU is definitely in for some dark and dangerous times in the future after Marvel's WandaVision.
