MCU actress Elizabeth Olsen says Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a natural progression from the Disney+ series WandaVision. Arriving on a cloud of high expectations as the first Marvel series to premiere on Disney+, WandaVision debuts later this week and kicks off Phase 4. The show stars Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany as Vision as the two finally experience the kind of domestic bliss only seen on classic television shows. However, not everything is as it seems, and the cracks in their perfect existence soon begin to show.

It's already been confirmed that Marvel's second generation of television shows will hold closer ties to the movies, and that's abundantly clear with WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2. Though plot details for the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring film are still being kept under wraps, it's no secret that Olsen will appear in Doctor Strange 2. Beyond that, the events of WandaVision are said to connect directly to Doctor Strange 2, hinting the series might contribute to the opening of the Marvel multiverse. Doctor Strange 2 will also have ties to the show Loki, which premieres in May.

Ahead of Friday's WandaVision debut, Olsen sat down with Good Morning America to discuss the series and beyond. Unsurprisingly, Olsen was unable to reveal any concrete details about Doctor Strange 2, but she did confirm the movie is a natural progression from WandaVision. "There's never much we can talk about in Marvel, but I do think WandaVision is a natural progression into what happens in Doctor Strange 2," Olsen said. "I think Kevin Feige is doing a really amazing job intertwining the television format with the films so that we can tell more interesting stories moving forward." This is a new frontier for Marvel, but it sounds like it's working out.

Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch

With this in mind, fans can go into WandaVision with their eyes peeled for potential clues about Doctor Strange 2. Presumably, the final episodes in particular will indicate where the story will go. The film is currently scheduled for release in March 2022, and though production began late last year, Olsen recently confirmed filming is on hold due to rising COVID cases in the UK. Even if an extended delay causes Marvel to shift the date for Doctor Strange 2, fans can rest assured that WandaVision will finally arrive later this week. With nine episodes planned, there will be plenty of Marvel content in the next few weeks.

The common theory is that Wanda's actions in WandaVision will trigger some kind of disturbance in the multiverse, thus leading her to team up with Doctor Strange (Cumberbatch) to fix it. Of course, WandaVision will shine a clearer light on that as it begins to roll out. It's also been said that Doctor Strange 2 connects to Spider-Man 3, so perhaps WandaVision could provide some clues about that too? Either way, it's very clear that Marvel's Disney+ efforts will merge with the movie side, and it'll be fascinating to see how it all comes together.
