WandaVision's self-aware format can explain how Deadpool can break the fourth wall when he eventually arrives to the MCU. WandaVision will kickstart Phase 4 of the MCU with the most ambitious project to date. Unfortunately, the show's innovative format is bound to expire after Wanda's (Elizabeth Olsen) illusion of a perfect life with Vision (Paul Bettany) ultimately comes to an end. However, the MCU could keep using it with other characters and justify their self-awareness in-universe.

Besides his healing factor, Deadpool's most famous superpower is his ability to "break the fourth wall," which means he can interact with the audience and acknowledge the fact that he exists in a fictional universe. This ability let Ryan Reynolds' comedic talent shine in both Deadpool movies, and it was a big part of the reason why Deadpool became such a famous comic book character in the first place. Other notable Marvel characters who can break the fourth wall are She-Hulk (who had been doing it before Deadpool even existed), Rick Jones, Squirrel Girl, and the alternate-reality hero Gwenpool. Several upcoming movies and shows in Phase 4 of the MCU prove that no concept is too crazy to adapt to live-action, and this superpower wouldn't be an exception.

WandaVision will reveal the true extent of Wanda Maximoff's powers and their effects on the multiverse. Alternate dimensions, resurrected characters, the birth of the X-gene, and brand-new superpowers could all have their origin in the most powerful sorceress the MCU has ever seen. Like in the comics, Scarlet Witch could have the ultimate say in the existence of a whole race of mutants. Not only could Wanda's actions explain why the Deadpool who joins the MCU is the same Deadpool who existed in Fox's X-Men universe, but also why he knows he's in a movie.

Deadpool and WandaVision Break the Fourth Wall

The trailers for WandaVision have made it pretty clear that the Disney+ show will break the rules of the medium, including the presence of a live audience, various layers of reality, and more than one literal wink to the viewer. Just like the Mind Stone could grant superpowers to the Maximoff Twins and sentience to Vision, Wanda's reality-bending abilities could transfer to characters like Deadpool and She-Hulk. They wouldn't even have to know why they can see beyond their dimension. If the MCU can incorporate characters from all previous Spider-Man movies into one event, why not also involve the real world, just like many comic books have done before?

Considering the MCU's success at interconnecting every single narrative detail, it's unlikely that Deadpool would be completely detached from the rest the multiverse. Apart from WandaVisionLoki's time-traveling antics could lead to the God of Mischief being able to grant new MCU characters the ability to acknowledge that they exist in a fictional universe. After all, it was Loki who gave Deadpool this existential curse in the comics. WandaVisionLoki, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will clarify whether Deadpool's meta superpowers are tied to the discovery of multiple realities or if he's just arbitrarily blessed with a unique superpower.
