Kat Dennings has revealed that she would be open to a spinoff starring her Marvel Cinematic Universe character Dr. Darcy Lewis and Agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park). The two characters together make an unexpected but dynamic duo that is one of the many triumphs of WandaVision. Dennings first appeared as Darcy Lewis in 2011’s Thor as a political science student and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman’s) deadpan, snarky assistant. She went on to reprise the role in the 2013 sequel Thor: The Dark World. Having not appeared in any Marvel movies since then, her reappearance in WandaVision as a well-established and respected astrophysicist was a surprising but welcome one for many fans, including Dennings herself.

WandaVision’s fourth episode saw Darcy Lewis brought in by SWORD (the Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Department) as a specialist who might be able to make sense of the bizarre anomalies taking over Westview, an unassuming suburban town in New Jersey that Wanda and Vision have made their home. Lewis has spent most of her time so far in the show working alongside Jimmy Woo, FBI agent and now also a successful close-up magician. Woo, who first appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp, was the one to bring Westview to SWORD’s attention in the first place.

They’ve only been in two episodes of WandaVision so far, but fans are greatly enjoying Lewis and Woo’s humorous and lovable rapport, with many supporting the idea of the duo getting their own X-Files-style spinoff series where they investigate mysteries and strange occurrences. Dennings seems to be on board with this idea too - in a recent interview with Extra, the Marvel actress talked about how fun their scenes were to film, and when asked about a potential spin-off said “I’m in. I’m in! If it happens, I’ll be there.”

WandaVision Darcy Lewis

It’s no wonder there’s so much interest in Lewis and Woo helming their own spinoff – in the absence of Agents of SHIELD, which aired its final episode last year, there’s a distinct lack of appreciation for non-powered people in the MCU. In giving these memorable minor characters more screen time, WandaVision effectively teases their full comedic potential as a mystery-solving team. WandaVision showrunner Jac Schaffer was intent on bringing Darcy and Jimmy together from the very beginning, and it’s clear that decision paid off, with their speculations and theories over what’s really going on in Westview perfectly mirroring fan discussions of every new episode.

It’s hard to say whether such a spinoff is likely - but an official pitch is currently being written, and it certainly has a huge amount of support behind it. It is very likely that fans will see Darcy again in the future, although probably not in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. With a full exploration of the multiverse getting closer and closer in the MCU, there’ll be no end of anomalies for Lewis and Woo to potentially investigate in Phase Four, whether as part of SWORD or on their own. As Wanda’s perfect sitcom suburbia begins to dangerously unravel, there’s no doubt that fans will have many more Darcy and Jimmy moments to look forward to in the remaining episodes of WandaVision, adding a bit of levity to the show’s dark and ominous undertones.
