Newly-released WandaVision costume design illustrations show two alternative looks for Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch. The first Marvel streaming series ever premiered on Disney+ in January of 2021, exploring Wanda Maximoff's grieving process for her love Vision (Paul Bettany) in a revolutionary way. Over the course of nine episodes, WandaVision went from an obscure homage to the wonder years of television to an action-packed Marvel showdown. And with it, Scarlet Witch's costume evolved.

As Wanda, Olsen paraded around in many colorful costumes throughout the series. From her now-iconic 60s housewife ensemble to her comic book counterpart-referencing Halloween costume, the show's wardrobe department was a major player. Of course, no garb excited fans more than the new Scarlet Witch hero suit that debuted in the finale of the series. The show-stopping costume matched the character's self-acceptance, putting Wanda in full Scarlett Witch mode. Olsen, herself, had input in the fresh design, which saw several iterations.

In an earlier post, Masson explained that these designs stayed more in line with Wanda's Avengers: Endgame look. It's uncertain if the concepts were meant to be for Wanda's grande finale hero look or to be used earlier in the series. What is certain is that fans in the comments section raved about the options. Masson collaborated with the series costume designer, Mayes Rubeo, who received an Emmy 2021 nomination for her work in episode 1, "Filmed Before A Live Studio Audience." It seems like leading lady Olsen was also a major influence in what designs ended up on screen. WandaVision series director Matt Shankman previously revealed that Olsen gave practical feedback during her costume fittings. When the actor put on the new Scarlet Witch uniform she inherently knew what worked and what had to be changed. She would try out different moves in the costume to ensure it didn't inhibit her performance, but instead elevated it.

Ultimately, it's clear that the entire WandaVision production team did everything they could to make each aspect of the series the best it could be. Every detail of the monstrous undertaking tells Wanda's story to the max. The wardrobe department, in particular, outdid themselves and will no doubt see the cultural impact on Halloween when countless Wandas, Visions and Agathas roam the streets vying for candy. Trick-or-treaters have a banquet of costumes to choose from.
