Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken an original spin on established events from the comics, WandaVision remained quite faithful to the source material. That doesn’t mean everything was adapted exactly the same, but it was a good representation of what comic book fans know about the characters.

However, it’s not possible to include everything as it is in the comics since the MCU has its own established set of events. In the end, WandaVision chose to make heavy references to important details in the original material. Some of these plot points were adapted in a different manner while others excluded altogether.

Left Out: Agatha Being The Governess For Franklin Richards

Agatha Harkness's first appearance in Fantastic Four #94

Some fans of WandaVision may not have realized that the Agnes had a completely different character arc in the comic books. Debuting in Fantastic Four #94, Agnes was approached to be the governess for the supremely powerful Franklin Richards.

WandaVision left out all of Agatha’s maternal instincts, as she had been fiercely protective of Franklin. The MCU series also adapted Agatha as a much younger character compared to her elderly appearance in the comics.

The Salem witch trials took place in 1693, with WandaVision showing a flashback to this time. This was a reference to Agatha's origin story in the comics being one of the original witches from the Salem witch trials. Her overall role wasn’t fully adapted, as the MCU version was shown to be the one on trial.

Left Out: Scarlet Witch And Quicksilver As The Children Of Magneto

Magneto’s status as Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver's father is common knowledge to comic book fans. This was revealed in The Vision and Scarlet Witch #1, with Magneto confirmed as the father until it was retconned in the AXIS storyline. Still, Magneto has remained in the role in most adaptations.

WandaVision left this connection out entirely, as her parents were shown as normal Sokovians. They were seen in a flashback to Wanda’s childhood, cementing their role as her parents in this continuity and leaving no chance for Magneto in this position.

While quite a few predictions for the finale didn’t come to pass, it was at least established that Scarlet Witch has real magic powers. This was a reference to the comics where she was initially said to be a mutant, with a 2015 Uncanny Avengers story and 2016 Scarlet Witch comics then revealing that she had genuine magical traits.

Much the same, WandaVision established that the powers she got from the Mind Stone only amplified her pre-existing abilities. She was always the being known as Scarlet Witch and ultimately accepted this identity.

Left Out: Scarlet Witch Creating The Alternate Reality Due To Quicksilver

In House of M #1, Wanda had used her powers of chaos magic to create a new reality, where mutants were free of any persecution. While WandaVision was somewhat similar, it left out the fact that it was Quicksilver who had convinced Wanda to create this reality.

In its place, the MCU series had Wanda turn Westview into an idyllic reality out of grief. Quicksilver did show up in some form, but he wasn’t the genuine Pietro nor did he have any part in Wanda’s actions.

The second half of WandaVision revealed that the house Scarlet Witch had bewitched as hers and Vision’s had been purchased by the latter. It was with the intention that they would eventually move there, but his death meant that never happened.

This was actually a reference to Vision taking his new wife, Wanda, to live in Leonia, New Jersey in The Vision and the Scarlet Witch #1. The comic had also shown the couple’s attempts to stay away from the public who disapproved of their union, which was similar to Scarlet Witch’s intentions in WandaVision.

Left Out: Vision Acknowledging Ultron As His Father

Ultron fights Vision in Avengers 2

WandaVision brought two versions of the Vision for fans. What it didn’t do was have Vision acknowledge himself to be Ultron’s “son.” In Avengers Vol. 1 #57, Ultron had created the Vision with the express intention of having a son of his own.

Vision did accept Ultron as his “father” but chose to go against his initial antagonistic conditioning. The MCU series only made sparse references to Ultron, with just the background of Vision being created by Ultron but not as his son.

The MCU has largely steered away from adapting characters as they are in the comics. This is to avoid the superheroes from having a campy feel to their appearances. WandaVision made a reference to this idea in its Halloween episode.

The costumes worn by Wanda and Vision were similar to their usual get-ups in the comics. The campy tone was also addressed as the characters were shown deliberately putting on these costumes to poke fun at their comic appearances.

Left Out: Scarlet Witch And Vision's Breakup

Vision tells Scarlet Witch to leave while the rest of the characters watch in the comics

The characters have separated many times over the years in the comics. In the Avengers Disassembled arc, Wanda had similarly lost control, but Vision had refused to accept her back on that occasion. In another example in West Coast Avengers #42, Vision had been disassembled and considered his marriage to Scarlet Witch annulled after he had been reassembled.

WandaVision chose to leave this aspect out, as the two characters remained together until Vision faded away when Wanda removed the spell from Westview. The White Vision never broke up with Wanda either, as he fled after recovering the memories of his past life.

There were several questions after the finale of WandaVision, with the status of Wanda’s children one of the most major ones. In the series, Tommy and Billy were the boys she created in her hex world, with references to their powers from the comics.

Tommy and Billy are Speed and Wiccan, respectively, in the source material. The MCU series displayed the same abilities of super speed and mystical energy in the boys, although these were only active within the false reality.
