Warning: SPOILERS for WandaVision season 1, episode 3.

WandaVision episode 3 officially brings Scarlet Witch's children Billy and Tommy to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and sets up the Young Avengers in the process. Despite being background characters in the MCU movies, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) are now headlining the first Marvel Disney+ show. Both characters have decades of comic histories that the MCU has so far not explored, but that is already changing quickly with WandaVision.

In the lead up to WandaVision's release, it didn't take long to realize that the show will explore Wanda and Vision having children.  The marketing showed a pregnant Wanda and further confirmed that kids were on the way with shots of cribs and the happy couple holding their children. When WandaVision's first two episodes arrived on Disney+, though, the series focused on Wanda and Vision just starting their domestic lives together. The reveal of a growing family was saved for the end of episode 2, allowing WandaVision episode 3 to focus on the twins' arrival completely.

The episode follows Vision and Wanda as they try to prepare for their kids' arrival, which is happening at an alarmingly fast rate. They discuss baby names, redecorate the house, and have the kids all within a span of about 24 hours in their minds - even if the sitcom decade WandaVision copies has moved into the 1970s. By the end of WandaVision episode 3, Wanda and Vision have twin boys named Billy and Tommy. Their arrivals could have huge ramifications on WandaVision's story and the MCU's future as members of the Young Avengers continue to appear.

Why & How Wanda Is Pregnant At The End of Episode 2

Wanda and Vision in WandaVision

Wanda's entire pregnancy in WandaVision is another piece of the big illusion surrounding the entire show. Vision being alive and this domestic lifestyle in Westview point to this new life being a chance for Scarlet Witch to live the life she couldn't before. Her appearances in past MCU movies never mentioned her desire to have a family, but that might be because they didn't focus too heavily on her character. Wanda having kids is the next evolution of WandaVision fulfilling her dreams of a "regular" life with Vision. It isn't yet clear if Wanda is in full control of this altered reality, but the sudden pregnancy is another sign that she's somewhat in control or that whoever is in charge of this reality knows what she wants.

Although WandaVision episode 2 joked about Wanda and Vision having some fun together in bed, Billy and Tommy clearly weren't conceived naturally. Vision even asks the doctor in episode 3 how this happened. Even though Bettany confirmed Vision is anatomically correct, this wasn't a situation where the witch and robot physically procreated. Wanda's baby bump at the end of episode 2 appears out of nowhere, highlighting the wish-fulfillment aspect of her pregnancy. This mirrors how Wanda's pregnancy played out in the comics in many ways, which also brought her and Vision a set of twin boys named Billy and Tommy.

Wanda & Vision's Twins In The Comics & Their Powers

Wiccan and Speed

Scarlet Witch first created her twin boys Billy and Tommy in the pages of Vision and The Scarlet Witch. Knowing that she and Vision could not physically create children together, Wanda used her powers to bring them to life. The actual conception accidentally came during a fight with the descendants of the witch known as Agatha Harkness. Her pregnancy doesn't move as quickly as it does in WandaVision, though, as Billy and Thomas aren't born until the end of the 12-issue series. It was later revealed that Wanda borrowed Mephisto's life essence to create her children. But, Mephisto eventually took the children's souls back, removing them from reality. This led to Agatha Harkness wiping Wanda's memories of ever having children in the first place.

Billy and Tommy later returned to Marvel's comic universe. Marvel revealed that their souls weren't destroyed, as they were reborn instead. Instead of growing up together as Billy and Tommy Maximoff, the boys were separated. Billy became the oldest son of Jeff and Rebecca Kaplan, while Thomas is the only child of Frank and Mary Shepherd. Wanda had no idea Billy and Tommy were still alive until they were teenagers. By then, Billy and Tommy each had developed superpowers and were known as Wiccan and Speed. Billy is a mutant mage like his mother and has various powers as a result, such as reality warping and teleportation, but his spells only work if he can hear them. Tommy is a speedster like his uncle Quicksilver. They eventually met Scarlet Witch and told her of their connection after becoming superheroes of their own as part of the Young Avengers.

How The WandaVision Twins Set Up The MCU Young Avengers

Young Avengers assemble in Marvel Comics.

The introduction of Billy and Tommy, even as babies, is the latest step in the MCU's plan to introduce the Young Avengers. Wiccan was one of the original heroes a future version of Kang the Conqueror posing as Iron Lad recruited to start the team. Wiccan and Iron Lad were joined by Teddy Altman aka Hulkling and Eli Bradley aka Patriot as founding members. Cassie Lang aka Stature and Kate Bishop aka Hawkeye joined them shortly thereafter. Speed didn't join the team until a rebuilt Vision located him as part of the Avengers Fail-Safe Program. This was when Wiccan and Speed discovered they were twins and searched for answers about their pasts.

If WandaVision is already featuring them as babies in episode 3, the show could age them up for Young Avengers rather quickly. They are far away from being members of the Young Avengers right now, but that could change by the end of WandaVision's decade-hopping, nine-episode run. They'd join Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) as confirmed Young Avengers members in Phase 4. This does assume that the show will end with Billy and Tommy still existing in the MCU in some form. However, if the show stays true to their comic histories, the possibility of them not being "real" could give Billy and Tommy a prominent role in WandaVision's finale.

How Billy & Tommy Set Up An Explosive Ending To WandaVision

House of M Scarlet Witch

The loss of Billy and Tommy is a traumatic moment in Scarlet Witch's comic book history that directly led to the events of House of M. It was revealed in the Avengers: Disassembled event that Wanda's memories of having kids were triggered after a careless comment by another Avenger. This led her to orchestrate the events that brought about the deaths of Vision and Hawkeye, and it concluded with the Avengers roster being completely overhauled. Scarlet Witch was taken by Magneto and Professor X afterward to try and help keep her mental state from fracturing.

However, during this time, Wanda wanted nothing more than to have her family back. She changed Marvel's reality so that mutants were the dominant species, but Wanda also took away her own powers and brought back her children. She hoped that she'd finally be able to live a peaceful life with her family. This didn't last after Wolverine remembered the original reality and helped restore several others' memories.

While WandaVision's finale likely won't be an exact recreation of House of M, there are plenty of teases that the storyline will be adapted in the show somehow. This could include the show ripping Wanda's happy life and family away from her. Such a moment could be what gives WandaVision a big superhero finale and sets the stage for the multiverse craziness that is in store in Phase 4. And with Scarlet Witch returning in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the possibility of her losing Billy and Tommy could further set up Wanda's role.
