Marvel Studios is entering early development on a spin-off series to the hit Disney+ show WandaVision revolving around Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness. The Marvel Cinematic Universe's first series on the streaming platform centered on Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff as she creates an alternate reality based on different decades of TV sitcoms with Paul Bettany's Vision alive in the realm following his death in Avengers: Infinity War. Alongside Olsen and Bettany, the cast for the series saw the MCU returns of Randall Park as FBI agent Jimmy Woo and Kat Dennings as astrophysicist Darcy Lewis as well as newcomers Hahn, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Debra Jo Rupp, Fred Melamed and Evan Peters as faux Quicksilver Ralph Bohner.

WandaVision became a hit for both Disney+ and Marvel, scoring rave reviews from critics and becoming the first Emmy-nominated Marvel series with 23 nominations. It would ultimately win three Primetime Emmy awards including Outstanding Sci-Fi/Fantasy Costumes, Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour) and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for fan-favorite track "Agatha All Along." As audiences eagerly await the return of the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness next year, it appears Marvel has another trick up their sleeves for fans of the series.

Variety has brought word that Marvel Studios and Disney+ are currently developing a spin-off series to WandaVision centered on Hahn's evil witch Agatha Harkness. While plot details are currently being kept under wraps, the show is being described by sources as "a dark comedy" and will see WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer return in the same position and executive producer. No comment has been given by Marvel Studios or Schaeffer and Hahn's representatives.

Hahn's performance as evil witch Agatha in WandaVision has stood as one of the most acclaimed elements of the Disney+ series, beginning as the annoyingly nosy neighbor to the rug pull reveal of her villainy with "Agatha All Along." Marvel's decision to capitalize on this success should come as exciting news for fans of the character, namely with Schaeffer expected to return as the writer for the spin-off following her Emmy-nominated work on the mothership series. The spin-off also comes at an interesting time for both the studio and Disney+ as multiple other MCU titles are in various stages of development or filming, including Loki season 2, while WandaVision served its purpose as a lead-up to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

While plot details currently under wraps for the potential WandaVision spin-off, there are certainly a number of avenues to explore for Agatha in her spin-off. Given her origins stem back to the late 17th century, there are hundreds of years of backstory to explore for the villain as well as the possibility of finding her struggling to break free from the mental prison Wanda entrapped her in "The Series Finale." In the meantime, fans can revisit WandaVision on Disney+ now in preparation for the Scarlet Witch's return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in March 2022.
