WandaVision episode 8 explores the trauma of Wanda Maximoff's past, but this happens without an appearance by Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Pietro Maximoff. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has filled Scarlet Witch's life with tragedy from the very beginning. But after doing what she can to forget about her past and enjoy creating a family with Vision in a fake reality, Wanda was finally forced by Agatha Harkness to confront what happened to her.

Agatha joined Wanda on a journey throughout her past to try and understand more about her powers, which Agatha deduces is Chaos Magic by the end. This is only possible after Wanda revisits some of the biggest moments in her life. WandaVision showed the night Wanda and Pietro's parents died from a Stark Industries bomb in Sokovia, and it then jumped to Wanda getting powers from the Mind Stone several years later. She then experiences a moment with Vision where she mourns Pietro's death. Wanda's trip down memory lane concludes with her trying to take Vision's body from SWORD, going to Westview, and then starting the Hex. WandaVision covers all of the significant events in Wanda's life, but it does so without actually featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Quicksilver.

While a young version of Pietro appears in the first memory, WandaVision oddly leaves him out after that and never shows the grown-up Pietro played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. He was around during Wanda's origin and also received his powers from Hydra and the Mind Stone. The series could've shown him getting his powers too or simply interacting with Wanda after she got hers. However, Pietro's absence is more glaring when it comes to his death. WandaVision doesn't include his actual death scene in the memories or a new scene of the twins together before it. As one of the most traumatic events in Wanda's life, not showing Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Pietro during her memory trip is odd, to say the least.

Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver in Age of Ultron

The explanation for Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Pietro not appearing could be two-fold. WandaVision's creators and writers might not have been able to figure out the best way to pull off this reunion, especially since Avengers: Age of Ultron already showed Wanda's immediate reaction to his death. The other reason could be tied to Aaron Taylor-Johnson not wanting to return or not having the time. He has said in the past that he'd be willing to return to the MCU under the right circumstance but downplayed that happening in WandaVision.

Even without Aaron Taylor-Johnson returning as Pietro, WandaVision has still managed to include Quicksilver in the show in a way. Evan Peters played Quicksilver in earlier episodes of the show, but he is not the same version who was in the MCU before. Peters' fake Pietro will appear in the WandaVision finale, it remains to be seen if Aaron Taylor-Johnson's will too. It doesn't seem likely at this point, but it will be a bit of a shame if the series ends without his return.
