A cool piece of WandaVision art imagines Scarlet Witch on a vintage 1950's magazine cover. One of the most interesting aspects of WandaVision was the episodic tributes to sitcom decades, starting in the 50's and ending in the 2010's. The show later revealed the immense sadness lingering underneath the sitcom facade when Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) took Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) a.k.a the Scarlet Witch on a trauma trip down memory lane. Agatha had been playing along with Wanda's sitcom fantasy, trying to understand why Wanda was using her immense powers to do basic things like, "Make breakfast for dinner."

One of the biggest WandaVision mysteries that had fans theorizing from episode 1 was the sitcom factor. Why were Wanda and Vision (Paul Bettany) living a charmed life in a city that seemed to be ripped straight from American sitcoms? The mystery even stumped Dr. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), Agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) and Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) as they observed Westview from the outside, wanting to help Wanda. Fans were finally given an answer in episode 8, "Previously On," when Agatha took Wanda back through her traumatic memories, trying to figure out how Wanda created Westview. The show reveals that Wanda grew up watching American sitcoms with her family in Sokovia. The sitcoms became her primary method of escaping the trauma she faced after losing her parents, her brother Pietro, and then Vision himself.

The cover is a great tribute to 1950's Wanda, and the addition of the red glow of Scarlet Witch's magic in her eyes was a great detail. Wanda's very smile in the photo was given an additional layer of heartbreaking context in the eighth episode, which revealed that Wanda created the Hex on Westview purely out of her grief and chaos magic. After the grief-stricken Wanda has transformed the entirety of the very real town into a 1950's sitcom, we see her go from the somber modern Wanda to the 1950's Wanda, smiling at the Vision she also created from chaos magic and the piece of the Mind stone that lived within her.

WandaVision was a masterclass of a television series, focusing on Wanda's grief via her escape through silly sitcoms and her eventual acceptance of the truth of her reality. The series could also be considered Wanda's true origin story as the Scarlet Witch, given how she fully accepted the title in the show's finale. The tribute to American sitcoms was a fun part of WandaVision but the most powerful part of that aspect series was Wanda deciding to wake up from her fantasy world and acknowledge that the show of real life must go on.
