The Marvel Cinematic Universe is still experimenting with the Disney+ shows, but there hasn't really been much of a precedent set for adding material after a series has initially been released. Yet, in the final scene of WandaVisiona strange ghostly figure has been added in the trees.

There hasn't been a reason given as to why this strange presence can be seen in the scene, but there's plenty of speculation occurring as to what it could mean for the show and Wanda's future in the Marvel Universe. There are a host of possible explanations for the ghost, from returning characters to changes in the timeline and the shifting of reality itself. How important is the moment really though?

An Astral Form

Astral Projections have become commonplace in the MCU now after Doctor Strange originally mastered the craft. Plenty of characters are able to use the trick, including Wong, The Ancient One, The Sorcerer Supreme himself, and now it seems Scarlet Witch.

While it's plausible that this could have been the Astral Form of one of the previously mentioned characters, it may be another unknown entity in the Astral Plane, spying on Wanda. Possible characters in contention for this would include Agatha Harkness, or perhaps Baron Mordo.

Doctor Strange

Fans made a number of predictions about WandaVision, including the arrival of Doctor Strange. While this never came to pass, there's a possibility that the ghostly figure could be some of Doctor Strange's magic in action. After all, there's a wide variety of tricks fans haven't seen him pull off yet.

The Master of the Mystic Arts is always keeping an eye on potential threats in the magic landscape. Wanda is certainly an unpredictable element at this stage and it certainly wouldn't be shocking to learn that Strange may have to intervene in her reality warping.

Scarlet Witch's Magic

Scarlet Witch uses her powers in WandaVision.

The Scarlet Witch is experimenting with her own magic as the series progresses and it's unclear what sort of dark energy she could be tapping into. It's plausible that the ghostly apparition is actually some of Wanda's own magic.

Perhaps it's another version of the character carrying out various tasks, or maybe even a spell in action that audiences are yet to have witnessed in the MCU. Considering the magical energy at play around that cabin, it's likely that it's all connected back to Scarlet Witch.

Ghost

There are plenty of characters from the MCU's past that continue to reappear and Ghost is likely going to be making an impact again soon. The character is a great contender for Valentina's Dark Avengers and could have been hired to carry out a very specific job.

Ghost's powers in the comics certainly extend to invisibility and it's something the MCU is probably going to play into. The most obvious answers are sometimes the correct ones, so maybe Ghost is the ghostly figure that has been sent to scout out Wanda.

Billy And Tommy

Wanda is on the search for her missing sons Billy and Tommy who were removed from the conventional MCU reality. Billy has a number of magical powers in his own right though and could be trying to make his own way back to his mother, with his twin by his side.

It's plausible that the ghostly shape might have been Billy trying to get in contact with The Scarlet Witch. The future Wiccan has demonstrated similar Astral abilities and other such skills in the past and the scene would link up well to the disembodied voices of the two boys.

A Variant

With Variants being introduced into the MCU there's a possibility that Wanda's shifting reality could be forming some new entities. Perhaps it's a Variant of Wanda, Loki, Doctor Strange, or some other character, but there's a plausibility that the ghost is not from the regular timeline.

The Darkhold could even be bringing them into reality, perhaps giving them a new life in a world where they have no right to exist at all. If they are a Variant this could also be part of the fallout of Loki and Sylvie completely unleashing the Multiverse.

A New Villain

Scarlet Witch reads the Darkhold in WandaVision.

Plenty of new threats are surfacing from the original source material and many of them could pose a serious problem for Wanda. In both the magical world and beyond, they might be keeping tabs on the character by using this ghostly apparition.

The Darkhold has a complex history in the MCU and has been known to bring someone's fears into the open. This could be linked to the Darkhold becoming a villainous entity once more or might even be entrenched with a villain like Nightmare himself.

The Watcher

Uatu in the Watcher in What If?

Wanda has done some truly terrible things in recent years and made a number of mistakes. She's also been a hero though and is integral to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She's the sort of character that Uatu The Watcher would be intrigued by.

Doomed to watch and never interfere, Uatu is being brought into the MCU and could be looking over Wanda as she makes this dangerous decision to delve into the Darkhold. If this really is The Watcher, then the character could reappear a number of times in the future.

Wanda's Future Meddling

Wanda creates Vision from her grief

Wanda has continued to meddle with reality and now that the timeline is coming into play, this ghostly apparition could be a sign of the sins of her future. The far future could very much come back to meet the past, which might be happening here.

Even if it's just an image of the timeline in the distance, it may be that a future MCU project showcases someone travelling to this exact moment and the ghostly figure is a representation of them in the timeline. As the Multiverse erupts and the timeline collapses, this could happen more frequently.

The Vision

The Vision is one of Wanda's purest and yet strangest love interests. Their romance has endured no matter what happens, but for now, the Vision that Wanda has created has been destroyed from the MCU's main reality. Vision has been known to turn invisible though.

This ghostly apparition could be The White Vision looking over his wife and trying to learn how to get back to the way he used to be. This might be a plot point that's resolved in the future, as it was unclear where White Vision went when he left for new horizons.
