Don’t Starve Together encompasses all of the survivalist thrills of the original with the added bonus of a more involved story and the ability to play with friends. The game also includes periodic updates containing brand new characters. Each character has its own unique attributes and weaknesses that really add a lot of depth to the gameplay. Walter is the latest of these added characters.

Walter is a welcome addition to the game because of his variety of abilities that set him apart from other characters. New players may find Walter to be a great starter character, and long-standing players will be able to make clever use of his various strengths. He also comes with a delightfully cute, and handy companion. Here’s everything you need to know about Walter “The Fearless” in Don’t Starve Together.

Walter’s Stats in Don’t Starve Together

Players who choose to play as Walter will start their game with 130 Health, 110 Hunger, and 200 Sanity. Walter is equipped with a Trusty Slingshot, 10 Pellets, and a Pinetree Pioneer Hat. The Slingshot's starting Pellets will only deal 17 damage, so players should work to craft new forms of ammunition as soon as possible.

The Slingshot provides a decent advantage for players. Few other characters have ranged weapons from the start. While the Pellets do very little damage, there are many other ammunition types that can be crafted. Walter’s Slingshot can fire the following ammunition:

  • Pebbles (17 Damage)
  • Gold Rounds (34 Damage)
  • Marble Rounds (51 Damage)
  • Cursed Rounds (51 Damage)
  • Melty Rounds (59.5 Damage)
  • Freeze Rounds (No Damage, but freeze enemies in place)
  • Slow Down Rounds (Slow enemy movement)
  • Poop Pellets (Cause enemies to flee)

Woby in Don’t Starve Together

Woby is Walter’s special companion that follows him around wherever he goes. Woby is not only cute but is also deeply useful. Woby can be used as additional storage as well as transportation. Woby’s inventory has 9 total slots. Because Woby follows Walter everywhere he goes, there is no risk in leaving important items with Woby at any point in the game. Woby is unable to die unless Walter does. Players should still be sure to feed Woby whenever possible.

Woby loses hunger at a rate of 20 per day. She can be fed using any Monster Food and has a maximum hunger of 50. When Woby’s hunger reaches 47.5, she will transform into Big Woby. Woby will grow considerably and will now be able to be ridden throughout the world. This is an incredibly efficient mode of transportation as long as the player keeps Woby fed. Woby will return to her normal size if she isn’t fed regularly.

During the battle, Woby can be ridden and will attack enemies for 10 damage. If Woby receives any damage though, she will buck the player off and run away to a safe distance. Players should stick to ranged attacks when on Woby’s back so that she can be used for a swift escape if need be.

Walter’s Weaknesses in Don’t Starve Together

Walter will lose sanity when he loses health. This can be troublesome for new players who aren’t familiar with the game’s mechanics. Walter will continue to slowly lose sanity as long as the damage is not healed. This can be slowed by half if the Pinetree Pioneer Hat is equipped. Walter is weak to Bee stings and will take an additional 10 damage. This is not helped by armor of any kind. Clothing items that can limit sanity loss do not have any effect on Walter.
