AMC has debuted a new trailer for it upcoming spinoff show, The Walking Dead: World Beyond. First announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, World Beyond is the second spinoff series of AMC's The Walking Dead. The first spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead, was expected to debut season 6 this summer, but due to the coronavirus pandemic interrupting production, it will now premiere in October. World Beyond had also been set to premiere earlier this year on April 11, but its release date along with that of The Walking Dead season 10 finale have both been delayed to October as well.

World Beyond will focus on a new cast of younger characters who are among the first generation to grow up post-outbreak. Unlike Fear, which began its story much earlier in the Walking Dead timeline, World Beyond is expected to take place in roughly the same time frame as The Walking Dead season 10. The spinoff is also set in a new community with ties to the mysterious organization that kidnapped Rick Grimes and flew him away in a helicopter in The Walking Dead season 9; meaning it's very likely World Beyond will help to set up the forthcoming Walking Dead movies.

During The Walking Dead's virtual panel for Comic-Con@Home, it was announced that World Beyond will premiere on October 4 at 10pm/9c, immediately following the airing of The Walking Dead's season 10 finale. AMC also debuted a brand new trailer for the spinoff show. Check out The Walking Dead: World Beyond trailer below:

This first full trailer for World Beyond puts the focus squarely on its young cast, teasing the mission that has them leaving the safety of their community and the dangers they'll experience once outside. It also features plenty of shots that are pretty typical for any Walking Dead show - desolate city landscapes and walkers (here referred to as "empties") shambling about - but a notable difference comes in how World Beyond will blend the post-apocalyptic survival with teen drama. The relationship between sisters Iris and Hope, for instance, is likely to receive just as much as screen time on World Beyond as the exploration of the CRM. This may even give World Beyond a leg up on Walking Dead's other spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead, since it appears this show is going for something new by aiming itself more directly at a teenage audience.

World Beyond is also expanding The Walking Dead universe by introducing new communities and characters who could conceivably carry the franchise forward. World Beyond may only be a two season limited series, but there's no reason its characters or locations cannot continue to appear on The Walking Dead proper or future spinoffs. If The Walking Dead is to continue for years to come as AMC would like, then a new generation of heroes and villains will be needed. As this World Beyond trailer enjoys pointing out, its characters are that next generation, so it's possible that the journeys they begin on this spinoff will continue into movies and future shows set within The Walking Dead universe.
